first supergun :)

I got hold of the AD725 which works well and it started from there, my supergun project is working well and the birds nest inside just needs tidying up a bit. Would appreciate any comments/advice on the rigs set up. The idea was to use as many functions as possible to play and test mvs/jamma boardsets. Its wired for mvs sound at the moment, need a toggle to float the ground and allow L&10 connection for mono jamma sound. Any other suggestions ?

I love the little bastard! Much smaller than the one we built. I love the speaker output and the JAMMA speaker output as well. I suppose you must make a DIN for the power supply?

The psu connects to the XLR socket on the left of the audio line outputs. Figured it would be better than din as its heavier duty resulting in less voltage drop accross the connections.

It looks like you're using an external power supply for that? And it does the +5, -5, and +12 volts? Where did you find a power supply that can do all three? I can never find one that has all 3.

Not bad, My first SG looked like shit....

I'm currently working on my third and fourth ones... The will be pretty tight... I guess the learing curve is better for some or others...

To answer the questions

The mvs pause is connected via a 3.5 mm jack, second piccy from top. Its top left of the jamma edge connect. That connects to the mobo pause dip switch.

Its running off a standard jamma arcade cab psu. Peter Chou model which are very common.

DB9 for a stick or pad is ideal on a supergun
Im using hacked 3DO game pads which have DB9 plugs.
Screen GND
1 up
2 down
3 right
4 left
5 A
6 B
7 C
8 D
9 coin up

Come to think of it, AES ports only use about 9 pins themselves. A few are blank or repeats of buttons for some reasons. When I build my SG it'll be compatable with AES sticks, but this is a good idea if you're gonna mod your own controllers for it (and it means it takes up less space-- MAN what a tiny gun! IIRC someone in Europe at the SGR had a supergun that was also really small, small ones are cool).

I use the following Button layout.....

1 2 3 4
5 6 7

Plus I have a +5, directions and ground.

I wire it up so that a neo Stick will work in it. I put the extra 3 buttons onto the secondary B+D buttons and the empty place.

It could be made a lot smaller, the limitation is the width of the jamma/mvs edge connect and in this case using an XLR socket for the psu input. A really compact supergun should be able to fit in the pocket.
The psu is a different issue of course.

maybe it could fit in the other pocket :make_fac:

Seriously, the gun could be made in a box a quarter of the volume of the one in my project. Wiring would be very tight but im sure its possible. The XLR would have to go, it would be din, s-vid and audio rca.

Something interesting I found testing the gun over the weekend is that the jamma socket I used (ordinary looking Woo Young jamma socket) will not accept all jamma board sets, most notably MK2 and CPS1 boards. MVS fits perfectly but most straight jamma boards Ive tried are a couple of mm too wide. Could file them down but would rather not.
I will make a convertor to a wider socket. I thought that the jamma edge connect was a pretty standard affair.
Oh well live and learn.
Anyone else come accross this ?

dude... All you gotta do is file to little grooves in the connector..... Won't even be noticeable.....

Don't file your boards... or waste time or money making an adaptor...
