Do the BIOS chips at the Neo store boot up in JP or USA by default? I hear on some older games, you dont have time to switch the region before the game boots up so I wanted to make sure Im getting one that will boot my USA system in JP mode by default. Does anyone know the answer to this?

Hi Mike,

The ng.com NGH bios boots up in JPN mode by default.

That's not really true. you can go into the debug menu at any time during the game and switch to whatever mode you want simply by changing the settings and selecting a restart within the bios menu.

The only issue is that some of the newer games (mostly those '98 and newer) will not allow you to boot up in the MVS mode even with the debug bios. It's some kind of copy protection issue or something I believe. You can still switch between different regions in home mode, although in some games the only way to switch regions is to use the game's built-in options menu.

Thankfully, this isn't such a big deal, since most of the newer games ('98 an newer) don't have censorship, and allow you to switch between USA, JPN, and others simply by accessing the options menu (no debug bios menu required).

Hope this helps.

Mine defaults to JPN mode and with some games, I get an "MVS SLOT CHECK" (real bout 2 and kof 2000). While it is annoying it effects gameplay none.

Often the '95-'99 games will not allow you to boot in mvs mode and if you try you will get a lockout screen.

I can verify that kof 2001 and kof 2002 will both boot in mvs mode which is quite nice.

Hmm ... I didn't realize that. Good to know that some of the newer games can boot in MVS mode.

every MVS cart i've tried on my modded AES system through a Phantom-1 converter WILL LOAD in MVS mode, even though it will initally go into AES mode. just boot the game through the Phantom-1, let the start/options screen come up, hit "select" and "C" to access debug bios menu, change from AES to MVS then just back out--DO NO RESET OR RESTART. if you simply back out, it will boot into MVS mode. you can play the MVS version, but once you beat the game and after all the credits have scrolled by, it will go to the RED lockout screen and stay there until you manually reset the system.

i've tried both OLD and NEW MVS carts--i can get them ALL to do it by following that method i listed above. pm if you have questions about this or anything.
