Metal Slug 2 Odd!

hi i recently got ms2 on MVS and upon starting i noticed something odd, theres RIDICULOUS slow down all over the game and i mean REAL REAL bad, i have played this game on emus b4 and it was never this slow, eg. when i am on the camel and i shoot the game slows right down, let alone if an enemy comes on the screen. also the man with a suitcase on the first level is not there normally he is but on my cart he is not!. any1 got any ideas?, its unplayable and is driving me mad! :blow_top:

yeah i feel really dumb now, i thought it was a boot, so i opened her up and found nothing odd at all. but it is so bad the slow down almost unplayable,

oh well get msx instead

Yep, mslug2 level 1 has major slow downs on MVS, at least on all the mvs cabs i ve seen nearby because of the waving background.

for the suitcase guy, it s because on mslug2 he s not at the beginning, you mix with mslugx ^^

i don't think the slowdown is that bad at all. even with 2 players simultaneous, i think it still chugs along decently.

Consider it as a bullet time option, just like in Max Payne.

no guys it is slow 95% of the game, its really fucking bad i think something is wrong, i open the cart to have a look, the pcb reads SNK 1994. not sure if that means anything. the only time its at normal speed is at the end of mission. i have never seen a mslug like this b4. i have played it on a emu and it slows down in PLACES not ALL the time, litreally when i fire when im on the camel with NOONE on the screen the game drops LOTS of fps. WTF???????????. it must be a boot?, maybe my 2slot is fucked?, all other 12 games work fine

1994? But this games is not from 1998? Maybe its a boot made with a sacrificed cart....

it looks real all the chips are perfect, they are all TOSHIBA. but it does say 1994 on it. my neo-bomber boot has some chips with INTEL on them!. anyone shed any light?

i have the aes version and it does feel like about 75% of the time it slows down even when you're just walkign along and shooting; IMHO X is waaaaaaay better.

that siad your copy sounds like it is fine.

what a garbage... I like it... remix tunes, different background daytimes, i like it

Even the out-of-place bosses from slug 1 and 2 please me... the "what boss arrives next ?" uncertitude is nice to me.

If i owned already Metal Slug 2 on AES and bought X the full price... i would be disapointed for sure.
But i just played slug 2 in arcades and got X on psx...

Anyway that s just my point of view, forcing nobody to like slug X

The only noticable slow down i can see on ms2 is the shaky bridge but the rest is fine

Normally, the emulators don't show slow down like on the real hardware. I actually had the same experience as you. When I first bought MS2, I had only played it in Rage. Getting it home, I knew there would be "more" slowdown (I was warned), but I wasn't ready for how much there really was.

Truth be told, I still loved the game, and got use to it. The slowdown ticked me off, but not so much that I never wanted to play the game again. Anyway... X... yeah, stuff it... I don't like X all that much either. And, honestly, I think it is because I played so much of 2 before I got X.

Edit: Shock Troopers 2 suffers the same fate... OK on a emulator, but slows with every push of the fire button on the MVS.

Haha, that was my same response the last time a thread like this was started. I actually REALLY enjoy the slowdown for this reason. It just makes the game feel a bit more "extreme".

I totally agree about the slowdown.
Sure it can be a bit anowing but think of it as an added challenge. I just got the MVS cart myself. I already played X on PSX and I really liked it, and it's nice to compare MS2 and MSX. But i'm not sure which one I like more yet. hmmm
