I was just trying to mod my Neo-Geo AES system for it to have Stereo output but I came across a big problem...

Well, I soldered both wires here

and connected those to the audio jacks.

The problem is that after that, I get no audio signal from the audio jacks!

Still, if I plug headphones to the headphone jack I get audio, and using the standard A/V cable gives perfect audio as well...

Any comments or suggestions?

Thank you for your time.

What I did with my stereo mod is soldered shielded cable from the L, R, and Gnd channels of the headphone jack to RCA jacks to the back of the AES. I have not found the standard 1V peak/peak audio signal from the motherboard so this had to suffice.

Err... a stupid question, there is no quality loss through the headphone jack ?

BarfHappy, why did you ask that?

And... Impedancy? What do you mean?

Ho, i was just trying to figure out why you didn t use the headphone jack for your connection, so your answer was the reason why (not connecting there because of quality loss) :)

For impedancy... well i ve faced problems with impedancy.

if i remember well... if your speakers have impedancy of 8 ohms but the sound output only allows up to 5 ohms... then the speaker may not produce sound (may be wrong... i m not in electronics ^^). My problem was connecting my pc to my dad s subwoofer... but it was in 92 so i can t remember well and pc sound cards were pretty err... crappy ^^;

aaanyway, all the speakers you connect suck up power (they act like if they were resistors of their impedancy), if the power is not enough to handle the speakers resistance then you get impedancy problem

You suggest I should try connecting it to other sound devices?

I am no pro on AES mods, but if thats all you soldered wires to and ran those back to your left and right audio jacks, then you left out an important step - connect the ground part of the RCA jacks. The inner part of the rca jack will connect to left (or right) and the outer portion will connect to ground.

If you look at the bottom part of the page that you linked that image from (!Arcade!'s stereo mod page), you will find this:

The last step will be to connect both Audio jacks to ground to finish this mod. Note: The most common method to link ground to the Audio connectors is to run a wire from a near by logic chip. A example is to tie a wire from the 74LS04 Pin 7 located near by on all NeoGeo systems. Once done reverse the steps to close your NeoGeo.

No ground = no audio.

Ah... yes of course, remember that you need ground ... but i bet you knew that... else you wouldn t be able to do soldering job. :P

well if you can try with another one you should give it a try ^^

Ok, I just soldered a wire to the spot in the botton to the audio jack and then soldered other wire from the seventh pin of the logic chip (mine isn't a 74LS04, it's a 74AS04) to the outer part of the audio jack.

Result: Nothing...

More suggestions? Please?

Have you checked with a multimeter if you got signal ? try to check between L or R and ground for example... if it s flat (no voltage fluctuation) then there might be something serious on your circuitry.

Hmmm... yes yes... I will try that... will post again when I get any results...

Thanks to everyone for your concern.
