A technical question about the AES

I am thinking of starting a little project. I wanna make a portable AES with a screen and a stick built in. I only have one problem. The position of the slot on the Neo is not helping me much. It will make it almost impossible to build the portable Neo. Is there any way I can like take out the slot and connect it to the board with wires or something? Or is that gonna fuck up my neo? Basically I want to reposition the slot.

I guess the only way you could do that would be to get hold of a PCB cart socket (Im sure they are available somewhere, I know the mvs sockets are) then sacrifice a dud cart, cut off the edge connect part of the carts pcbs and jumper to the socket, there will be heaps of connecting wires though.
That way you could mount the socket anywhere you like.

Can't I just take out the slot and solder it back on with extension wires or something?

No reason why it shouldn't work, it just sounds like quite a difficult project. Be sure to keep us all posted, I'd love to see your final product.

Yeah me too. Just don't be expecting anything soon. I still need to buy a cheap Neo .. already working on the wooden frame design though .. It's gonna be a masterpiece

The tracks are very fine and its a double sided printed circuit board, you run a serious risk of damaging the print if you do that. Its really not worth the risk imho.
There are 240 connections and the chances are you will fuck up on at least one which may render your neo useless.
Im not doubting your solder/desoldering skills, just being realistic.

Personally, I would use a MVS board for this instead of an AES, for many reasons. For example, in some MVS boards like the MV1F you can unplug the cart holder from the board.

On MVS. "Only" 200 on AES ;)

Thanks for the correction MKL, I know little about AES.
If I had one I wouldnt be pulling the cart socket out unless it was absolutely necessary

the sacrifice cartridge as an extender socket sounds much more logical and safer way to go.

Thanks for the website. Very good features but not the best design.. I am thinking of a more professional looking one

You will need to solder but you do not have to remove sockets from motherboards, the cart holder is a seperate part, it unplugs from the mother board. It really does make sense.

I took a closer look at that website. Which board did that guy use? I am gonna get one right away with unibios.

Probably a MV-1FZ, they are refered to a "mini" mvs boards.http://www.hardmvs.com/html/MV-1FZ.htm
Or possibly a MV-1A which is similar
http://www.hardmvs.com/html/MV-1A.htm
The only drawback with these is that they have no stereo, designed to plug straight into a jamma cab.

If you have the space get a MV-1, its stereo, has home system joystick ports and even memory card reader sockets.http://www.hardmvs.com/html/MV-1.htm
