Hi,

I'm thinking of adding other ways to get into the IN GAME menu apart from the now START+COIN or START+SELECT. Basically while these work fine for people using the joystick ports, using a coin switch wired to a button or a multislot cab it dosent help people with a 1 slot MVS in a cabinet.

Other ways I could allow to get into the IN GAME menu could include;

START+A+B+C+D

START+SERVICE (would require cab door open if button inside)

START+TEST (would require cab door open if button inside)

START pressed three times quickly.

Any advise from people regarding this or other suggested entry methods would be helpfull.

how bout debug bios style?

select & c

I guess this wouldn't be much different than select+start, as the problem here is that some people may not have wired the select button.

I don't really know... How about pressing start and keeping it pressed for, say, 2 or 3 seconds?

Raz, what other features could we expect for 1.3 and when should we expect it? I have 1.1 and I need to upgrade it soon, as I will give my 1.1 to a friend that only needs the AES mode. Should I burn 1.2 or wait for 1.3?

eh ... typo ...
i meant start & c. i'd say pressing 5 buttons at the same time isn't that much fun ...

AND ... my controllers don't have service or test buttons ...

I think it should be something that will probably never actually happen in gameplay..

What about holding both Player 1+2 start buttons while pressing button C on Player 1.

But I guess that depends on the space bewteen 1 Player Start button and button C.

I think this is the best option as there will never be a time when this combination would be pressed in a game. Plus those using Superguns or Arcade Cabinets would both have easy access to these buttons.

I don't think the in game menu should be accessed by having to press buttons on the 1 Player and 2 Player side at the same time as that sounds like a hassle and would just be annoying to perform.

I have a one Slot board, (MV-1FZ) and I dont have a select button (obviously).

I think the start and all 4 buttons would be the best bet, as some of the SDMs in KOF require all 4 buttons. (i.e. K9999's "Tetsuo Arm" move)

Im definitely going to be picking one of those up Raz.

Raz,

How are the hacks and cheats going with SvC... Probably hard to tell until the offical cart gets in your hands... but was wondering if we will see some good svc and ss5 stuff in 1.3! Oh and I owe you some cash, I will be buying the next rev from you... I get too much enjoyment out of this thing not to pay for it. Thanks again man, you are truly a neo God!

-Nick

And Start+A+B+C+D works for me as well!

Either way....you do it will be cool Raz...I'm just gonna wait for this revision to buy mine though due to my lack of a select button....but as soon as you're done I'll be sending ya some $$

My vote would go to start +c as holding down 5 buttons at the same time on an old style stick would require the use of 2 hands.

Would it be possible to have 2 ways to access the menu? If so then keep it as it is and then another way for cab owners without a select button.

Might be too tricky... but how about making it user definable? Like from the BIOS setup screen you can choose a button combo that works for you... like a key config:

Please hold your button combo now.... You entered Start+Select.

Something like that... I know... more logic, more chances for problems, but just a thought.

User definable would work as well. I just think start+A+B+C+D would be rather cumbersome over time. Start+Select is easy for ones that use the sticks because they are right there.

If user definable would it have to be redefined every time you load up a new game or only be setup the first time you load any game with the Uni-Bios

Thanks for the advice. START+A+B+C+D is what I will go for I think. Hoever, START+COIN and START+SELECT will remain also so there will basically be 3 different ways to enter the in game menu that should hopefully suit all.

SVC and SS5 cheats are going well too :)

Glad to hear that because i prefer start + select but adding other ways to access the menus sounds great. Any idea when version 1.3 will be released?

The final choice sounds wise :)
I have a lil wish, could you make it possible to escape the CRC check with, say, C button at the screen asking to choose a slot ?^^; crc check is long and if you have to press A to start one after doing a mistake in the menu, it s a bit annoying

Let me guess... your favourite color is green right? ^^ maybe beeing able to choose the colors for those who hate green, such as offering 3 or 4 color schemes but that s just cosmetic and if you were to add all the extras people must be asking for, the 27c1024 wouldn t have enough room i guess ^^;

Anyway your bios amazes me :) and everything fits in with cheats and all, pure greatness.

Start three times isn't terribly good for those of us who play samurai shodown 4.

I have changed for 1.3 already so you can either exit out from the slot selection screen or while the crc32 is calculating.

Let me guess... your favourite color is green right? ^^ maybe beeing able to choose the colors for those who hate green, such as offering 3 or 4 color schemes but that s just cosmetic and if you were to add all the extras people must be asking for, the 27c1024 wouldn t have enough room i guess ^^;

I am open to suggestions here. If someone can come up with a better color scheme I might use it. However one limitation is I will not change the SNK logo color, that has to stay the original SNK blue :)

That leaves the following colors than can be changed.

Black (background)
Vdrk Green (in game menu background)
grey (forever text)
Dark Green
Med Green
Light Green
Red

Feel free to do some photoshop color editing using emulation screenshots on the ingame menu screen and universe bios splash screen/menu and post to this thread.

this may sound really boring, Raz, but what about a plain black and white? sorta like the Test menu for the MVS?

Honestly, the color scheme doesnt bother me one bit in the screen shots Ive seen, but I guess a black and white (with the SNK blue of course) would seem so much more "vinatge", i suppose.

just an idea.
