screen problems after a few rounds

I bought an MVS 1 slot board and stuck it into my Jamma Cab, with Samurai Spirits plugged into it. The machine started up fine. good sound, decent screen.

However, whenever the screen has a flash, the image starts to jumble up and zig zag. When the machine is unplugged and plugged back in, it works again. I tried this with Samurai Spirits 2 and I got the same problem. It wasn't always the first fight, but usually withing about 10 minutes the screen is completely jumbled up. However, the sound and the controls remain fine. Is this a monitor problem?

I also bought an old Sega 16 E-Swat with a jamma convertor for my cab, and it gives me the same problem, however with the Sega game the screen is never correct.

I'd blame it on the machine, but I've hooked up a few other Jamma boards to it and never had any trouble (Un Squadron, Power Instinct and Ninja Gaiden all work fine with no screen troubles whatsoever).

SO does anyone have any idea what is wrong? is it the systems and the boards? The monitor? As always, any help is greatly appreciated.

it boots up fine and has good sound

It is not a monitor problem.
It is possibly a low 5 volts problem, check it at the jamma/mvs edge board connector. Also really seriously cleaning the carts and slot conntacts is a good idea.
Whats Sega :make_fac:

I have the same problem with my SuperNova, I got it a few days ago, and it worked perfectly for a day or so, but starting last night, the game will play fine for a few minutes, then the video starts getting wavy, like a 'water' effect, then eventually my TV says "unusable signal".

I shut it off, works fine for a few, and so on.

How do I fix this? I cleaned the contacts on my MVS board (MV-1FZ) using alcohol, and it still did the same thing.

please help!

Usually the most common causes of a game resetting itself during game play is low voltage from the power supply (+5 volts) and the connector not fully seeded into the board.

I think you might have replied to the wrong thread, as there is another one about restarts.

But thanks for trying to help, regardless! :buttrock:

so is this a game-to-game basis or should it affect all games played on a certain board?

This should be checked on a game-to-game basis. Some boards neek some slight tweaking. I recall anytime I plugged in a JAMMA board made from Technos, the power supply ended up being too high and needing readjustment. Certain boards seem to be more power sensitive than others.

It does seem to be on a game to game basis. The regular jamma boards seemed to work fine (UN Squadron and Ninja Gaiden are the only ones I have right now), but the Neo Geo games (which go through an MVS system) and the Sega 16 game (which goes through an adaptor) are both problematic.

The Neo Geo games start to "slide" (as in the right hand corner of the screen starts to slide over to the middle of the screen) as soon as something really powerful occurs (something that causes a thunderous sound and/or causes a huge flash on the screen), but does come off "clean" when plugged in.

As for the Sega 16 game, it's E-Swat, and the screen is jubmled from the beginning. I get sound, but not much more.

So am I to understand that all I need to do is clean the boards and just add a little bit more power?
