If I wanted to change that panel to a layout like this one

4slot5.jpg

Would that be possible?

I think I might be able to get a good deal on the first unit, but I'm a little leery on that layout. It looks like it would make switching between the two most important buttons on a Neo uncomfortable, though admittedly I haven't ever used such a layout. I suppose I could switch it so it goes ABC then D on the bottom, right (considering most of the games I want don't use D anyways)? If anyone can comment on that I would appreciate it.

Anyone have experience changing something like that?

Thanks for any advice!

id pick up the samurai shodown 2 cab the guy is selling instead
its a pretty neat cab in my opinion

the other way to change it would be to just pick up another control panel when you see one for sale on ebay
something like this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3251242005&category=13718&rd=1

thats a really crappy one, but its the only link ive got still in history
control panels usualyl end up for sale every other week and itll end up costing 50$ shipped at most
if the cab and the panel happen to be wired up with the quick disconnect type things, itd be a very easy switch, otherwise a little soldering invloved if youre comfortable with that

Actually I have a control panel just like the one in that bottom picture if your interested. Just to clarify it is in much much nicer shape than the one in the auction Scooby posted.

That layout works fine ,you may have to get used to it at first ?. Believe it or not its actually a good configuration for Fighting games ,unless maybe you have tiny hands. Its also a very comfortable layout for youre hand and to me the placement makes logical sense.

Really? Cool, I hope I win it. My hands are average sized, maybe a touch above. Even if I don't like that layout, I can swap it so the top three are the primary three - for the kind of games I want (some Metal Slug, Shock Troopers, maybe Bust-A-Move, etc) three is all I need anyway. Some of that sellers (the only eBay seller I know of that sells in my area) reserves are STUPIDLY high though. He had a reserve over $350 for a two slot 19" with a couple $20 fighters - WTF? It wasn't even in mint condition or anything. Hopefully he learned his lesson or something. :make_fac:

If you noticed, the Samurai Shodown II's screen is clearly dark. It might just be the overhang or the flash, but bleh, it doesn't look so great to me. Besides, I like having a marquee slot - it's very charming IMO.

yeah Neo cabs and other arcade cabs tend to sell way over what they are actually worth to an operator on ebay. Ebay = oppertunity to get extra cash out of dumb people. I doubt youll have any real issues with that layout ,you could always slap a new overlay on the controll panel and drill a few new button holes if you dont care for it. Thats more or less how my cab is laid out , you can see it in the link of my sig.

Seriously, if you're buying a cab off that guy BUY the sam 2 cab. It is absolutely WICKED looking. Email him about the monitor, I have a feeling it's fine but he just took a crappy picture. Pictures are poor ways to tell about monitors

Plus most monitors you can adjust brightness...

I really wish he didn't end them at the EXACT SAME TIME. I can't afford to bid on both, and if I lose one I have no chance to go to the other one.

The Sam Shodown II cab is fairly cool looking, but I AM going to be playing other games in it. Point in fact, I don't really like the Shodown series much.

That's nothing though. A local arcade place by me has NO arcade games at all under $800. And there are a couple real POSes over there. They had a Neo Geo 4 slot 25" for $1500. It was in ok condition, but it is not worth even close to that. They also had a Donkey Kong with a broken joystick for $800. WTF is that?

The only thing I thought was a good deal there were the mechanical pinball machines. They were sold out of them, but basically all of them were $800, which isn't too bad on most models, really.

Seems like the only place to get really good deals on arcade machines is at auctions or through individuals off of eBay. I have seen a few good deals on eBay though - Neo Geo 4 slot 25" went for less then $300 a while ago, and it was in great condition. No reserve either. That was more luck then anything, likely (they typically seem to get around $500). I also think $200 is reasonable for a good condition Die Hard Arcade, which I've seen it end at. Is Die Hard Arcade JAMMA?

If you want good deals on MVS cabs just hit every operator you can find in the SF Bay Area , around here they arent worth much at all and there are plenty of them just sitting on routes and really not making any money. $300.00 to $500.00 is really normal here and $500.00 is usually a very high price here, with the average red cab selling for about 3 to 350. Thats any board with or without games ,the cab may be a cherrie or somewhere in between ... but they just dont have much value here at all.

they are actually considered a waste of route space by most operators in this area.

Bye the way a real Samurau Showdown cabinet is a pretty rare find these days , I would probably consider one on that alone, plus they look cool as hell ;)

SF bay area? The shipping cost alone would kill whatever value I saved. :make_fac:

Yeah very possibly, coast to coast shipping is usually about 250.00 to 300.00 most of the time.Personally I dont think that is very much considering what it would cost to actually drive and pick a cab up. I usually try to factor any shipping costs into my bottom line ,but in reality I never have to ship anything simce there are loads of machines of all kinds in Ca, and I dont buy them anymore ,infact I will be unloading a few more cabs pretty soon.

You should check with Big Bruno and see if he has any lines on a cab for you since he lives in the Houston area I believe. That wouldnt be too bad of a drive for a new toy :)

12 hours, by my estimation. I'll stick to this guy on found on eBay who's an hour away - even if I have to pay a few bucks over what the cab is worth. :D

Out of curiosity, where in misery, er, missouri do you live?

I considered buying that sam2 cab, but it would be too far of a drive. I just hope it doesn't get stripped if it doesn't sell, those cabs are waaaaay too rare.

Outer St. Louis area. I think I overestimated driving time to Houston. More like ten hours :-P.

I might be in 'Misery' (or as people sometimes say here, Mizzureh), but I'll always be a Michigander at heart. :)

And yesh, the Samurai Shodown II cab is fairly cool looking. I hope it is preserved as well. But I love the classic Neo Geo look, and want a marquee slot. How hard is it to change marquees, btw?

Kansas city > st louis :p

But seriously, changing marquees is a bit of a pain, on my cab at least. There's a metal holder on the bottom, and one on the top, and the marquee goes in between, like:

__holder_____
Marquee
-----holder------

Each metal bar thing has three screws on it, so you have to unscrew 6 screws, then pop out the marquee, and change the mini.

Guess I'll have to ghetto-mod it to make it easier to switch. No problem.
