If I buy a cabinet with a medium resolution monitor (virtua fighter2), can I run regular resolution games ( my MVS)on it too?

It may be a dumb question, but I don't know if the medium resolution monitors are backwards compatible.
Thanks for any help.

Depends on the monitor...some are switchable.

VF2 doesn't have one though...unless it was replaced with a switchable one.

Well, if it is a switchable nanano moniotor (which I belive it is) you have a four wire contact on the chassi card (under the monitor which you have to take out of the cab in order to reach it) wich you need to change to another contact just next to it.

Some monitors automatically detects incoming signal and runs at 15kHz or 25 kHz accordingly. The POLO /2 15-25 does this.

You don't have to take it out of the cabinet. You can reach under the CRT neck and do it.

Tried it at first and decided I wanted to see what I was doing, there are alot of capacitators on a chassi card and I saw no need to hurt myself.

It's really not hard at all. There is a fairly big space between the CRT and the chassis PCB.

Okay lets clear up some confusion here..

If you are located in Europe or Japan then the chances are your monitor will be a NANAO dual freq monitor.

If you are located in the US or Canada then you will be unlucky as Sega US used the crap WG Med Res monitors.

If your monitor is a SU26 (26") then the monitor freq select will be in the middle of the monitor chassis (quite tricky to get your hand down there).

If your monitor is a SU29 (29") then the monitor freq select will be at the back of the chassis (very obvious to spot, there be a row of pins, and a plug will be on one row set of pins).

The new Nanao which is on some new Japanese sit-down cabs and newer games (Dedicated VF3, F355 DX and so on), is Tri-Sync and is awesome, it has OSD and and auto detects from 15/25 and 31.5kHz.
