I started in on the first set of that 3 that came out years ago, I honestly can't remember the name of it. Well it didn't last too long. about a summer I suppose. After that I got into The Legend of the Five Rings and Young Jedi. I still got that rare Darth Maul foil round here somewhere. Then I just sort of gave up on it. I still got my cards but I never use them.

i dont remember an unlimited black lotus, i thought it was only found in alpha and beta.

at one point i was about to jump into pokemon and yu-gi-oh card games but ill stick to magic when i want to return. damn these new cards i seen people play with are super strong from the new expansion sets, no wonder people dropped out of magic.

I started around Visions, and still play now, but refuse to buy any cards from 8th edition onward. The game is getting too crazy for me, and the changed card faces are horrible.

I agree. The new look looks like ass., and it's so bad that it's actually preventing me from picking up a starter and getting into it again. I just can't stand the way it looks now. I miss the old days of lockdown/mirror kill and necro. I miss the days when sets were LIMITED and fiding/trading for that cool card was a big deal. I can't even imagine what the type 1 scene is like these days...

Matt

PS: alpha/beta/unlimited had the same cardlists.

How many of you guys know that this site started out as a combination Neo-Geo and Magic card site?

I was still called neo-geo.com, but on the main page Shawn had a whole section of the site dedicated to Magic cards.

This was as far back as at least early 2000.

A little ng.com trivia in case you guys didn't know.

Back when shawn had like $80,000 sunk into magic cards. Yah. I remeber that. I also remember his juzam Djinn page, which at the time was pretty hard to find and cost like $150. He had I think 24 of them sitting side by side. For a magic junkie, that was amazing to see.

wow i never knew shawn was a big magic collector. he probably sold them all by now to buy more neo.

oh well i felt a big come back for magic if weren't for the ridiculous card face changes.

what bogs about the new expansion set, mirrodin, is that everything in that set are artifacts including the lands.

"i disenchant your forest"

wierd

Wow, I suppose that was before my time. I never would have though Shawn was into Magic. 80,000? Wow. That's alot of cards, I've spent a lot of cash (no where near 80k) and I have a shitload of cards. I'd hate to see what that can get you. Wish he still had those pages up.
I haven't played since sometime around Urza's Saga. I never really fell out of the game, I just ran out of people to play with. I've kept up with the game this whole time, because I've always stayed interested. One of my fav sites is www.mtgnews.com
I've been back into the past two weeks. One of my roommates was a pretty big Magic fiend as well, and we've been going through our cards in order to make some decks. We were both really good at the game back in the day, so when we finally clash it should be a awesome match.
My fav sets are Mirage, Tempest, Ice Age, and The Dark.

Here's where you can witness the nerdiness as I remember it.

Nerds...

Actually I had a lot of fun playing back when it first came out before they realized that they could release an expansion every week and people would still buy all of them up. It got waaaaaaay too expensive to keep up with, and as more and more stupid nerd bitches got a hold of it it became much much less fun.
