I left a negative feedback for someone and now he's filing a case against me through eBay Square Trade, wanting to get his neg feedback removed. Anyone dealt with this before? Will anything happen if I just ignore his case?

Depends on what his total feedback is I think....someone else should be able to help more. But I know Power Sellers can get most negative feedback removed pretty easy.

Were they a seller or a buyer?

It seems that eBay unfortunately pays far more attention to the sellers than the buyers... so if it was a buyer who was complaining, I doubt anything will happen.

Also, I thought that Square Trade was only a dispute-resolving service... I don't think it has the power to remove negatives...

They did fuckall when I tried to get my money back off someone who never delivered the goods. They just sent him a few emails and when he didn't reply they said 'sorry about that, now fuck off because we don't give a shit'. Or words to that effect.

They were the seller. Bought my MVS cab from this guy, who said the item was "fully shopped out," or in excellent condition. Once I receive it, there is no key for the marquee lock. I email the seller, who said he would check it over with his tech guys and get back to me, but he never replied.

Next thing I notice is the the fan on the power supply is dead. So I buy a new PSU. Then I get a replacement cabinet lock for the marquee, and the bulb, ballast and starter are all shot. And there was even a chassis problem and potentially a picture tube problem as well, which I am getting checked out.

Since my first email about the marquee brought me to a dead end, I didn't bother letting him know every other thing I found which wasn't "shopped out." So I left him neg feedback just saying the item was not shopped out as described and that I have spent almost 200 bucks on repair work thus far. So he contacted Square Trade:

"Reported Problems:

I would like the feedback left for me for this transaction be removed.
I have no outstanding conditions on the removal of feedback I left. I understand that feedback cannot be restored once it is removed.
I would like the feedback I left removed only if we resolve other issues - such as sending or receiving payment, refund or merchandise."

It doesn't seem like I really have to comply with this, but a partial refund would be nice.

Square trade can't force you into removing feeback. All they can do is ask if you would be willing to remove it. That's all they can do. Just say no, and that's the end of it.

If you agreed to remove the feedback, then the person you left it for will have to pay $20... Come to think of it, that might actually hurt him more than having a negative. Something to think about.;)

This guy sells $2,000 dollar items regularly on eBay; I think the neg will bruise his ego more than the 20 bucks will lighten his wallet.

Has he ever mentioned anything about a partial refund besides what is said in the SquareTrade email? If you are willing to agree to remove the feedback, just stipulate that once he refunds whatever you guys decide on, then, and only then will you agree to remove the negative. If he wants rid of it so bad, he'll probably refund you some of your money right away. Your in the driver seat.

Good luck with this. Let us know how it all turns out. If he turns out to be a jerk and won't refund anything, post his eBay id here, so we can all make sure to avoid his auctions.

Thanks.

Well, I receive a second notice which stated that the person filing a claim CAN have their negative feedback removed without my consent if I refuse to participate in this mediation, which seems absurd. So I did respond to it and a mediator should be contacting me soon. He's already paid for the mediation, so the best I can hope for is either a partial refund or no change at all (his feedback stays) and he's out 20 bucks or whatever the cost. We'll see.
