SSFIIX for Dreamcast . . . How good is this port?

I'm thinking of buying Super Street Fighter II X for the DC. Does anyone out there have the port who can comment on how close it is to the arcade (CPS2) version?

I'm just trying to see if there are significant differences in graphics, sound or gameplay before I shell out for the game.

Other than different select screens and VS graphics everything is exactly the same. its a very nice port. Everything is kept the same (and there is an option to turn the game into the original SSF2, so its actually SSF2 and SSF2X. Sadly, no US version option like in the Puzzle Fighters port)

Graphicly it looks like crap. Trust me I have so many versions of this game. I have it on CPS2 Saturn, PSX, and DC. I can safely say it does not look right. In fact I would advise you to either play it on a supergun or on a modded xbox with KawaX while stil buyinmg the CPS for collection purposes.

I've never really understood what's going on with the crappy look on the video of the fighters on the DC. Something is very wrong with Alpha 3. I think it has something to do with the way you can resize the screen by scaling it smaller and smaller.

I guess DC fighters were optimized for use with the VGA box? Can't say b/c I've never used the VGA mode. Either way, it's kind of annoying because these games are so close to being perfect ports.

Plus side: No loading at all.

Negative side: The resolution is hella grainy/shitty looking. There are also some collision/priority issues that are wildly different from the arcade. I could pull off all kinds of cheap-ass tick-throw shit with E.Honda that you can't really do on the arcade version.
Gh3y.

It's OK, but the real thing smokes all the ports. Hopefully the upcoming Hyper SF2 for PS2 will remedy these issues and at long last be the perfect port this timeless fighter deserves.

It's not 100% arcade perfect. The resolution looks pretty grainy, kinda like it was made for a beefed up SNES or something. I think this has a lot to do with the little quirks such as crossups and such, but it feels different from the arcade. The more time I spend with it (had a 5 hour session the other day), the more shit that I see.

Damn it!! I was looking at getting one to. Seems like the DC version is just as bad as (worse?) than the PS port? :(

I played the pcb a couple of times but sadly not too often because this game was one of those that were almost nonexistant in German arcades in the first two years after release, that's why my experiences with the real thing are quite limited, I never got the chance to play it hardcore before the console ports came out.

So, compared to other ports, the DC version still can hold up well I think, and this game is just mad fun, I really love it, the engine is fabulously cheesy and some combos are devastating... gotta love Guile and Chun...

As Plisken says it doesn't work with RGB, but it does with s-video which is better than rf/antenna, I bought a s-video cable some time ago for SSF2X, Gunbird and Vampire Chronicles and it's all good.

Hhmm . . . I think I just had an idea as to why some DC ports like Third Strike and Alpha 3 have this grainy look.

Maybe they made the BG's and sprites smaller to use less memory ( like the letter box effect on the old SNES SF2). Then they could just be using the Dreamcast hardware to scale things up to size.

Does this make sense to anyone else? Take a look at the backgrounds in these games as they scroll from side to side. There's an annoying shimmering effect not seen in the arcade.

I dont know why everybody touts the DC as this amazing piece of hardware for 2D games as they normaly came out looking like shit to me. I cant think of one Capcom or even SNK game that I can say honestly looks as good or better than the original it was ported from. SFA3 comes to mind as a boggled piece of dog shit that had strange controls. I still need to locate a saturn copy of that. Dont get me started on Vampire Cronicles either...just very very bad. That and I'm a picky purist bastard too :p
