Well..luck found me yesterday. I went into the Funco-Land/GameStop today with my friend Andy, because he told me I could get a NES Advantage. Well they had one for 4 bucks, in crappy condition.

As we were looking at all the NES games I over heard a conversation between 2 people and a clerk.. Oh no.. we won't buy that.. it's too old of a system.. Andy was there like a fly on shit.

We went over and they had 3 bags. One bag had a SegaMasterSystem 8 or so games two controllers and the light gun.

Another had a Genny3 with a 32X and a bunch of games, even Virtrua Fighter. And the last one was a TurboGraphix16.

Andy went right for the mastersystem. (bastard) He said wow, thats nice, how much would you like for it with all the games? The one guy said...ummmm 20 bucks? So my buddy gave the guy a 20 and he got it.

I asked the guy how much he wanted for the T-16 he looked at me and said...5 bucks! I then saw a copy of Ghostbusters for the Genny so I grabbed it and I said I'll give you 10 dollars for both of them and they took it!!!

Here's a picture of the T-16, a little beat up but it works great.

But the best part about this is what they said before we went over there.. "see they won't take it.. I knew we should have put it on E-Bay!

So now I got to find a Turbo Tap so I can play all of Parasol Stars..

I bought a TG-16 with 2 controllers, 10 games (one of which was Splatter House) for 15 dollars from a school classifieds.

Nice!

I work at a similar store, so I am lucky enough to get ataris, saturns, and the occasional CDX for 5 bucks or less. ^_^ Everyday I hope someone will trade to trade in Neo stuff.

Bah, Gamestop is stupid. Someone could walk into a Gamestop store offering them a minty new sealed AES copy of Mark of the Wolves for $10 and they would turn it down.

Did any games come with the TG16? Ive only got a handfull of games for mine, but I really recomend Bonks Revenge! Huge improvement over Bonks Adventure which I thought was rather boring.

Some day im going to break down and get a Duo. :)

Geez, 4 years ago, I saw Rescue Mission on Sega Master System at Funcoland, and because it wasn't in their inventory files, he just gave it to me for fucking free!

The guy only had Pac-Land in it, which sucks and I allready own.

I got a Turbo Express YEARS ago when NEC had a deal if you got an Express you got 8 games of your choice for free.

I got about 6 games I asked for and they just threw in powergolf and other stuff.

I got Air Zonk and Bonk's Revenge also.

Now I need to get Blazing Lazers.

I'll make another Must Have T-16 games. I want to get some more now that I can play it on my TV

I still have my TG16 in storage someplace. My two favorite games on it (and I still have) are Galaga 90 and the Capcom classic Side Arms...a definite 'must-have' for the TG16 :drool_2:

When I was associated with an establishment (a real import place, not this cookie cutter sh8t nowadays),I used to LOVE when somebody came in off the street looking to sell for cash.
You would get the FOOD STAMP discount (ACCESS CARD nowadays:crying: ). Thirty dollars worth of credit gets ya 10.00 in cash.
Paying cash for games is not a favorable policy because it breeds the buying/selling of stolen property...years ago it started off innocent enough until 'like new' and the 'latest stuff' start coming through the door abit too frequently...heh. you'd see more money going out the door than coming in..

not if you run your store effectively. I never pay more than 40% in cash of what I'd sell any item for.

yeah Big Bear. when i had my store i had several people who'd come in occasionally with 'brand new'[still sealed] games.. even multiple copies of the same game.

so ofcourse i turned them away and wouldn't accept their stolen goods. ;)

you know what sucks though, it's not even worth selling new games if you're a small independent business. like say a game has an MSRP of $49.99.. then they'd sell it to me wholesale for like $45 - $46.. and i'd be like "wtf!? how am i supposed to make any money off of this?!".. and then a big chain store would be advertising that same game for like $39.99 and ofcourse i wouldn't be able to compete without losing money.

if that wasn't bad enough.. say a system goes for $199.99.. then the wholesale price you'd get it for would be like $197. ofcourse i complained about that to the distributors before but they had just told me "well yeah, you don't make money off of the systems. you just need to get them out to people so you can make money off of the games". blah!!!!!!!!

so it's like you have to rely on the stolen goods people bring ya or just avoid new games/systmes as much as possible and stick with used[or rentals].

i tell ya though, if i ever decide to get into the gaming business again i sure as hell am going to avoid new merchandise!

Hey Freak It,your distrubutor was HOSING you...In most cases you were given a $10 margin. The only bully tactics I remember were distributors forcing their best friend's home brew game on you which amounted to being a sh8t game most of the time.
The scenario was like ,we give you a 100 copies of the HOT title BUT you must purchase 40 copies of this SH8T title to get the HOT,
gauranteed to sell title.
Business was more than effective in the early to mid 90's,it was BOOMING!!
.business was too good because NO CUSTOMER would be turned away without making a deal and walk away the majority of the time without being satisfied
The difference between the stores of yesteryear and today was that you did what was best for the business and the customer.
I f you made the customer happy, this was GOLD because it was free advertisement...I could go on and on...BUT I won't.
When cash was paid for merchandise whether it was more going out than coming in,was'nt the main jist of my 1st post..it was used
as an example of how paying cash can get out of hand..
If an item came in the door, you offer them CREDIT which is going to be pretty much less than what the customer paid by a % depending on what the title was/ is
..sorta like a car,the merchandise will depreciate BUT when the customer wanted cash, they would be given considerably less because this most certainly means the $$ will not stay in your establishment.
If you dealt with children, the child would have to bring an adult &
most certainly have that
adults permission because a minor cannot enter into a contract with anybody so the whole PAY CASH thingy breeded alot of problems as the GAME STORES supposedly became more sophisticated/high tech yeah right:rolleyes:

you know what the sad part was? i had spent quite awhile asking around & looking up distributors trying to find whoever had the lowest prices... and the one i decided to go with was actually the one that had the lowest prices at the time. this was back in 1997.

i even tried contacting the bigshots at Nintendo & Sega, but ofcourse they only deal with big chain stores and just pointed me towards the distributors.

but oh well, what's done is done. that's all in the past for me now anyway.

i do wonder how Shawn makes out with the Neo Store though.. can't imagine him making too much off of each game.

Hey FREAKIT,I should'nt have stated you were HOSED because I did'nt have a timeline reference...maybe that guy was giving you a fair price..I go back to the years of 90-95..basically after '96 is when the whole game sales scene started changing for the worst and the FUNCOLAND robots/clones started taking over the country.
knowing how things were and how they are now is traumatic for me.. heh.

I wouldnt say their stupid for not buying that stuff. For the most part it just sits around untill a hardcore collector comes by. Over the past year of working at Game Stop I have been very happy that we don't take that stuff in. I've gotten the chance to buy a second Saturn allong with 20 game ($50), a SMS with the arcade stick, can't remember what it's called, and 10 games (also $50), and several NES games that we just simply would not buy because they were not in our computer system for very cheep.

I love game stop. Hell I just bought 14 NES games for $10 there because the kid that was selling wanted cash but did not want 20% less cash. So I gave him a deal. :buttrock: As he left the store I made an offer he couldnt refuse.:D

Why would someone who wants to make some money off their old games not look into the value of their stuff? Some idiot is going to go to an EB with Dragon Ball GT and sell it for $2 when the game goes for $400 on eBay. It doesn't make sense to me.

Some people just dont think that games appreciate in value.

What I hate worse are the stupid people that think that they can Take Madden '03 and trade it in for most of Madden '04's cover price. When I was buying viewtiful joe the other week this guy infront of me was complaining that he would only get $7 store credit for his Madden '03. He stormed out claiming that the store was trying to rob him.

The woman retaliated that it was a $10 game, he was lucky they were giving him that much store credit. :p

yeah, the chain video game retailers of today suck. we used to have a local only video game "chain" of like 3 stores back in the early 90's. they were awesome to deal with, they carried EVERY system you would actually want (and the one's you didn't) and would buy or trade for all of them. the big chains started showing up in the mid to late 90's and basically put him out of business. now there is nobody who still carries stuff for the rarer systems, and it's difficult to find games in good shape. so basically, the net is the best place to buy vintage games. the only problem with that is knowing who to buy from and who not to buy from.

I work in a Game Crazy chain store, and I have to say, the few local independent stores in vegas put that shit to SHAME. I don't recommend it for any true gamer that wants to retain their sanity.

You should all get a kick out of this though: a bunch of us employees were forced to watch this holiday training video, and something came up in it that was just a horrible. The camera pans to this guy playing an XBOX, and the caption reads "Joe plays Halo around 4 hours every single day. He's what you call a 'hardcore gamer'". Yeah, so....that's the basic mentality of Game Crazy.

I really am a terrible salesman...I have NO idea what to say when someone asks "what's a good game for XBOX?" (probably most common question). I used to say "panzer dragoon orta" but after the 89th "are you fucking crazy?" look I decided to just point randomly to games on the wall and see if I can actually sell whatever piece of shit I just pointed to ;)
