Hey I want to ask if anybody ever had the problem when you load up a DVD game on their PS2 does it burn a ring around the disc? I just recently had this problem I load up a game like ssx 3 and it works and everything but when I chech the game the lens made a ring around the game where it loads up. The games still work but I'm so upset at this. What would you guys do, Repair it ,Buy a new PS2 or just leave it like that as it works fine except for the makeing rings .

Mine does that to. But I dont really think its scratching the disc. I think its just a ring of dust.

My copy of VF4 had alot of those rings on it. So I gently wiped the bottom of the disc with my finger and it wiped off.

PS2 is a dusty system. Ive never had a system that sucked dust up like this thing does. Ive cleaned it a couple times with the vacume cleaner. But it doesn't help much. I also HATE the way Sony made the disc door. Its flimsy, and you cant hold the edges of the disc to insert it. I keep hoping Sony will redesign the system and fix some of these problems. Not likely though :crying:

No kidding! I've never seen a home system that could suck up dust like the PS2...I almost had one ruined because of that :crying:

Are you playing the System in it's Vertical position?

That can cause the disc to get scratched.

err.. he means 1 permanent scratch on the center of the disk. Not a heap of surface scratches.

Anyway, yeah it happened to my copy of Armored Core 2. It's not a thing which happens often, this is 1 game out of 60. If it does continually happen get a new system. As for my copy of AC2 it still works but will not load the final boss fight. I'm guessing your copy of SSX3 will have problems with it somewhere even if they are not easily notable.

A scratch repairing kit couldn't save my copy of AC2 but many people have had luck with this, so give it a try.

Tis one of the many reasons I sold my original PS2 system. I've seen this shit happen to around 12 of my droog's games already, and my Ace Combat IV got seriously fucked as well. Being an "Anal" gamer about even hairline scratches... this is a constant source of irritation. But the XBOX will do this to games as well from time to time so it's not a PS2 exclusive.

I've heard that it happens with the PS2 and Xbox because the discs aren't held as securely as a top-loading system. Any truth to that?

And thats what I like about the Gamecube.
That it's a top loading system with less moving parts.
Iv'e had one of my PS2 games get jammed in the loading door :(
