Why?
Is Joe Torre's mafia connection gonna"take care of him?"
Or will they add Pudge to their overbloated(much like Well's gut) payroll?
BTW,the only way this game could have ended better,if Roger"the Cocket"Clemens had gotten the loss instead.
Lay off dissing Clemens ok?
He's the greatest pitcher in the last half century.
Beckett may be good, but he'll never be as good as Clemens in his prime.
I find it amusing when a 41 year old pitcher is still better than most of the pitchers in the major leagues.
Anyway.
I'm glad the Yankees lost, unlike people who bitch about the payroll my concern is the fact that the players did a shit job this season offensively. They simply did not show up for most of the series, you cannot win unless you score runs, which is something they have been godawful at since the explosive April start. They dropped off in May, and that was it.
Truthfully they shouldn't have even been in the World Series, just on fluke they made it in because of stupid Boston managing.
The off-season is going to be interesting to see who gets axed by Steinbrenner. Rick Downs the hitting coach is finished for sure. Don Zimmer already said he won't be back next season. Brian Cashman should be very worried about his job as GM. I personally hope if they get rid of any players, they get rid of Aaron Boone. I'm sorry but he is a horrible hitter, I can't see why they wasted the time getting him, when they could have just brought up Drew Henson as the 3rd baseman, and from the stats his BA was about the same as Boone. Next, they need to get right field squared away, it's like a circus out there, three right fielders, but they alternate too much. They need a set guy in there. You've got Juan Rivera, David Dellucci, and Karim Garcia. I would take Garcia in right or give both him and Rivera a shot.
Left Field and Center Field are fine with Hideki Matsui and Bernie Williams. Third base, they need a third baseman who can play defense as well as get hits when needed which Boone only did once and that was the ALCS Game 7. He didn't do shit in the World Series. Jeter will be SS for a long time obviously. Soriano needs to work on his hitting, I'm getting sick of watching him swing at breaking balls that go down and away. He is an absolute sucker for that pitch. After his performance in the postseason as a batter, well he better get help fast if he wants to be around. Also his defense needs to be improved, he made way too many errors during the regular season. Led all MLB 2nd basemen with errors. 1st base is another area, they need a set guy, either Giambi or Johnson. Given Giambi's health and overall playing ability on the field and in the batter's box, Johnson is probably the better choice. Even though Giambi hit 41 homers during the regular season, his batting average was .250, which was awful. Not to mention he needs to learn how to hit the ball the other way because it is really pathetic watching opposing teams shift their entire infield to the right so the third baseman is almost at second base. Posada will be the catcher, he had a great regular season, but did awful during the World Series. 2 hits overall if I recall correctly.
The big question mark is the pitching rotation.
You have Mike Mussina and Jose Contreras. David Wells and Andy Pettite are going to become free agents. Clemens while has said he will retire, I think it is questionable. Brian Cashman wants him to become a free agent in case the Yankees need him at some point during the regular season or playoffs next season. You have two guaranteed starters left. Wells and Pettite are not guarantees. Clemens may or may not be done for good. You have Jeff Weaver in the bullpen, while he could be a potential starter again, it would be in the Yankees best interest to release him because he has done nothing but blow big games for the team. For such a so-called "Ace" he sucks. Then again he was a Detroit Tiger's Ace, but saying you are the best of the worst is kind of pointless.
The bullpen needs work, they have the closer all set with Mariano Rivera. But the problem is getting to Rivera. They need to get a reliable setup man for the 7th and 8th inning to get to Rivera.
But anyhow it should be an interesting off season.
Congratulations to the Marlins, they certainly played their hearts out and deserved to win.
