So why can't Time Crisis 3 be used with component or S-video cables?

I was about to grab Time Crisis 3 while at Best Lie today until I read the warning on the back about the video cables. It says I need the standard composite video cables in order to use the GunCon. I'm using the component cables. So I need to run a special connection to my TV and swap it back and forth with the component cables just to play this one game? Maybe if every single jack on the back of my TV weren't already occupied (and this with 2 component inputs and an 8-way switcher hooked up via S-video and composite).

Anyone know the technical reason behind this?

Probably has to do with the accuracy of the Guncon controller. I'm not familiar with the home set-up so I honesty can't help you much :(

I don't know how it works exactly, but in addition to plugging the Guncon into the controller port, it has another piece that hooks between the composite video cord and the TV. Hard to hook that up if you're using S-video or component...

Ther is some sort of adapter you need to buy for like $15 that lets you use s-video and component cables with the gun con. It's a rip off, but what can you do.

The Guncon has to go through a composite cable, but the cable doesn't actually have to run into a TV.

I have a cheapo mad catz PS2 A/V cable w/Svid. I hooked the guncon onto the "dead" (i.e. not running to TV) composite video cable and it works swell.

You heard me right... swell

Never worked for me, when the Guncon was connected to a switch even, it had problems registering hits on the screen. Perhaps you just have a better TV that produces a better signal on screen.

I never liked the Guncon, Sega's guns were always perfect with the Virtual Cop games, and nothing special was needed. The Guncon was a gimmic, and should have been designed better... Fuck the claims, sega guns were always dead on, and more percise then the Guncon ever was...

In my experience the guncon is more accurate than my dc or xbox guns, and on par with my saturn guns. It works like a champ with the adaptor, I run my setup through component and have no problems at all. The gun uses the composite video for sync line data, no need to plug it into the tv, just plug it into the composite line from the ps/ps2.

How would that work exactly if the PS2's A/V port is already occupied by the component cable? The Sony component cable doesn't have any other leads.

I looked at the Namco chart, and it basically seems to be telling me that I have to hook up my PS2 via composite because the cable they recommend takes up the A/V port on the PS2.

Maybe I should just play House of the Dead 2 on my DC instead

I use a Guncon 2 with Component cabels, and all you have to do is place the green cabel into the Guncon along with the USB and you should have no problems!

Verbatum, many thanks for this tip. Just tried it out, and it works flawlessly. Damn sony and namco for making ppl think they have to buy a separate adapter!!!

Actually the adaptor you buy is a passthrough. But I guess verbatum's idea works. The green line carries the sync after all. I'm embarrased I didn't think of that. :emb:
