Since I cannot figure out how to set up a poll (the user interface for this feature isn't available as best I can tell) I'm going to do an improvisized POLL:
----------------------------

What's your favorite Metal Gear entry in the series, and why? *Note the upcoming Game Cube entry "Twin Snakes , the PSone Import "Integral" and "Substance" are factored into their respective places. You cannot pick SNAKE EATER as it has yet to be released.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Metal Gear
Metal Gear II: Solid Snake
Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid II: Son's of Liberty
Metal Gear: Ghost Babel
Snake's Revenge (the bastard child of the MG universe)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My pick so far still goes off to the MSX/PC Emulated 8-Bit "True Sequel" of MG 2: Solid Snake (hence my avatar of Frank Jaeger/Grey Fox... which looks a bit like me). *MY REASON for this entry? ---Well as far as not having the 3-D flair of MGS, the sequel just got everything right. A bitchin' Metal Gear model to battle, a great soundtrack (midis at it's best)... the first usage of the Soliton Radar (called "Mobile Radar")... and it was just cool seeing all the characters more or less look like actors or historical figures to boot. The PSone game Metal Gear Solid was more or less a hodge podge of SOLID SNAKE and the first game, just further refined in 3-D, just as "Ghost Babel" for the Gameboy Color was basically MGS and SOLID SNAKE with some differing plot twists.

I ran an official POLL for this in the XL-R8 forums but sadly most ppl just weren't into the M.G. series there it seems. I figure I can't be the only one who (despite some of Kojima's bullshit) loves this series *I'll exclude MGS II from the records... So what's your favorite entry and why?

well, i remember playing the old Metal Gears on the NES long ago.. but as i recall i just played em like any other game.. just to beat em and that's that. didn't care to keep playing them after that.

more recently, i had tried Solid II awhile back but didn't really get into it. i thought Splinter Cell was a much better game and stuck with that one.

Not really... if you want to play the 8-Bit versions that started it all, I'd say find a MSX emulator that'll play on your computer and play them as they were meant to be played... but the Metal Gear game for the NES wasn't that bad, nor was "Snake's Revenge" to be fair... only it didn't really place as much emphasis on Stealth in lieu of more action.

Ugh if you like MGS2 you should love the others as they are leagues better

Anyway, gameplaywise MS2 is excellent, but I love the cinematic feel of MGS, and I hope Twin Snakes will make it that much better with a nice graphical update. There was so much emotion in that game....loved it, only game I still have for my PSX

The GBC game which I think is what you have listed as Ghost Babel (I don't think it had a subtitle in the US) was actually very good, much reminescent of the NES games.

One you haven't listed is the VR Mission which are actually really hard and enjoyable for what they are.

MGS2 is definately the stinker of the bunch. Sad since the demo showed so much potential. After that beginning when you take over Raiden the character and story are complete cop-outs.

I feel asleep...

I just hope they don't screw with the music. Anyone know if they've got the same composer on board? I had no problem with the music in MGS 2, but it was hardly memorable... MGS had a style all its own.

I agree the score was one of the main things that moved the story along. I haven't much been keeping up with Twin Snakes so I don't know if the same music will be used or not. SK has said the aren't changing much so here's to hoping...

I didn't list it because it was apart of the "import" JPN MGS: Integral version where Japan had the English voices and later after beating the game you could get it in Japanese with Eng subtitles. But even so, I never saw V.R. missions as a stand alone game, more of the PC equivalent of a "Expansion Disk". Good times with that though for testing a gamer's reflexes

Yeah I don't pay attention to the Japanese release schedule much, I didn't know it was included with a game.

BTW was Integral the one that allowed players to play through the whole game in FPS mode?

Yessir that's the one. I didn't use that mode much however, I was just interested in having the game in Japanese langauge w. English Subs and having the extra V.R. Missions. *Come on ppl, those of us who responded can't be the only ones with an opinion as to which is the best of this series. *A series like that isn't popular for 15 years and not have fans or at least players with an opinion. Come on and vote! :smirk:

I guess the Playstation one, though the MSX second game is pretty cool considering its age & hardware limitations.

The original Metal Gear Solid cost me over 65 dollars when it was first released.

Overpaid you say?

Well, I bought the game for 49.99 and I had 15 dollars worth of late fees after not returning the game for awhile.

Stupid of me yes, but it goes to show how much fun the game was.

I'm not looking forward to the remake as much, but since it is being made by Silicon Knights (Eternal Darkness developers), I may have to give a spin.

After going through a gamer's Hell to get the MGS Bleamcast disc (elusive as it was) to play on the Dreamcast, and loving the heck out of MGS on the PSX/PSone in three different variations... I for one cannot wait to play the upgraded, and slightly longer version that is Twin Snakes, another of the reasons that I bought a Game Cube. Okay anyone else around here have a say in their fave?

I am against the remake, one reason being the original MGS will lose its magic and place in history in a way. Right now it is considered one of the best, if not the best, game on the PS1 and otherwise but after the remake it might just be an inferior version. Play it as its suppose to be played is what I say.

I can't decide between the two so I'll say both MGS and MGS2 (which are also both my fave games of all time, aside from KOF). The emotional factor and characterization of the first and the questioning, philosophical and analytical nature of the second are a work of art/genius imo. Not only are they so damn good but can also be replayed endlessly.

I tried getting into the older MG games a few times (got em on emu) but just couldn't, too boring.

Man, I'd have to say Metal Gear. Although, MGS is close second. Too good of a story.

Which would mean a vote for Substance is a vote for MGS2
