They started selling these in the U.S. recently, with a quieter fan and better DVD player. I also heard that they put the reciever for the DVD remote on the system itself. Is that true?

Does this newer model of the PS2 look cosmetically different (and I don't mean different colors either) from the PS2s already on the market ala' the PSone? Or is it just a better inside usage capacity and the fan thing mentioned? If it's smaller and better it be a 1-UP for me before purchasing another one for MGS III: Snake Eater

Other than a visible IR Sensor for the remote, they look pretty much the same as the old model. My advice is to wait for the price drop, it should happen before MGS III releases.

No, it's the same as a regular unit, $179.99. The rumored price drop would either be $129 or $99 depending on Microsoft's price drop.
