I have an SGI Indy R5000 computer. I do not want to run IRIX if I can help it. I want to setup a network between my Windows XP, MAC OS X, and SGI computers. Is there any way to install some form of Linux on the SGI system? If so, where can I get it, how do I install it? I am very new to Linux.

If some one can assist me with this, and even help install step bu step, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

GAMEFAN:)

You will be able to run anyMIPS build of Linux.

My recommendations are either Mandrake if you are somewhat new to Linux, or just want the ease and headache free operations. Or Debain if you want a more advanced and high end build but again it is for more experienced users.

I myself am running Mandrake 9.1 and it is great.

Deb can be more powerful, but definitly not as easy as Mandrake.

I think you are right. Where can I get instructions and the actual software for Mandrake 9.1? ALso, what hardware do I need. I need to purchase a new CD Drive and am wondering how to go about this. I am so new to SGI and Linux. Can you help me with a step by step tutorial?
