Have you ever bought a CD because of the cover?

Even when you didn't know if you'd even like it? I did.

I've never seen this Anime, but I liked the woman on the cover (Gin Rei). I've actually been wanting to see it, but it's not on DVD (legit DVD anyway) so I haven't been able to.

I've listened to some of the CD and I like it. I got lucky. Of course, I only paid $10 for, so if I didn't it wouldn't have been THAT big of a deal.

So has anyone else done this? And if so, for what and did you end up liking it or hating it?

[edit] Here's the pic to the cover:[edit]

I've bought tons of stuff due to the cover art for not only CDs, but games and Anime as well... though mostly Anime. *I remember having picked up the Captain Harlock animated film My Youth In Arcadia on VHS in it's original form (no subs/dubs) just based off how bad ass the character looked... that was 1988, and he (the character as well as Matsumoto stuff) became my fave Anime of all time.

Also had this happen with the movie Astroesque by Michael Allred based off his "Red Rocket 7" comics (that I still have yet to read)... but the cover art of that Dark Horse Comics VHS release just cried out to me: "RENT ME!"... well I did one better and ended up buying one of the coolest *No Budget flicks of all time.

I don't think I've ever done such an impulse buying. I always read reviews ahead of time before I make purchases, although the frequency in which I have been misled by reviews are plenty. I bought this monstrosity, and I assure you it was not because of the cover:

Don't believe the hype, this thing is bad, I sold it off at a loss on eBay as quickly as I purchased it.

Don't know if you know or not, but Animeigo has the DVD rights to My Youth in Arcadia (or Arcadia of My Youth to we US bastards :D ). According to their main page, it's "in replication." Give it a month to a month and a half and it should be available to purchase! :buttrock:

I made the mistake of purchasing the Knight Hunters/Weis Kreuz/White Cross Anime based on the front cover. THAT was a fucking mistake and a half. I watched 2 eps and ended up selling on eBay for barely 1/2 what I paid for it after shipping. I just couldn't have that turd soil the rest of my collection.

And the Anime reviews I used to rely on, namely Anime On DVD, don't help me any longer, as I prepurchase ALL of my Anime. In all the time I've worked this way, I've only ever bought this ONE DVD I hated enough to sell. Everything else I have (all 1039 discs) may eventually, time permitting, be watched again. I couldn't be bothered to finish Weis Kreuz...

I've bought quite a few records and CD's because they had a Pushead cover.

Nine times out of ten, they're really good:

CAVITY
DR.OCTAGON
COCOBAT
INTEGRITY
RATTUS
KINGHORSE
DAMAD

No, but since I've bought a book of 45 cover art, I want to. Like this Cheap Trick single that apparently Steve Albini had a hand in making.

I don't know why I like the art, I guess it's the green.

Weiss Kreuz isn't -that- bad.. it's just a total ego stroke to the voice actors and a shoujo fan service. Goofy, yes, but not terrible.

You're lucky I'm not a WK person though.. some of those fangirls are EVIL.... :help:

Personally I haven't bought any anime or music based on the cover. I tend to read up on titles and then rent them out before I buy them.

I couldn't enjoy it. I tried. OK, so I watched 2 eps, how hard did I try? :D

The "story" was a flaming turd on a front porch. I've seen sillier storylines work, but Florist Assassins? And they try to make that SERIOUS, not silly? Maybe if I was a female, it'd be different, but just thinking about it now makes me shudder.

No offense meant to those who enjoy WK. I am not one of those people, however. To each their own. I don't care what you watch, so long as I don't have to watch it with you.

And I thought all women were evil? :glee:

yeah Takkyu Ishino is pretty cool. i've been a fan of his stuff for several years now.
he's also part of the group 'Denki Groove'... i'd suggest checking that out aswell.

and here's a list of some japanese artists that make some really cool electronic music.

Takkyu Ishino
Denki Groove
Ken Ishii
FLR
Boom Boom Satellites
Overrocket
Shinto

actually, i'm not sure if Shinto actually makes electronic music themselves.. i had just picked up a 12" by them that only had remixes on it.. but i thought all the remixes were really cool.

have fun checking them out! :buttrock:

I've heard Ken Ishii before, he was really really popular over here several years ago.

Thanks for the tips, I really dig electronica, I'm going to check some of these guys out.

I once bought a video game before a trip to the hospital as a kid. Sadly Yoshi's Cookie was nothing like Super Mario World...and I don't even like puzzle games that much. I usually impulse buy based on the price, like a $10 CD that I've heard of the artist.

I am pretty much a sucker for anything that comes out on Escalator Records, Bungalow, and Readymade.

I've done that with quite a few albums, however I only do this with used CDs, not new ones. Some real good finds I've made include:

200540612.JPG

Savatage. What a great band, and that cover is simply awesome. I saw it and knew it had to be good, especially the back insert that has a pic of the band.

200332537.JPG

OK, I partly knew who this band was, but only for George Lynch, who played in the 80s hair band Dokken, which I didn't like. I did like his guitar playing though, so I figured to give this a whirl. I wouldn't have even thought about it if I hadn't come across a bigass skull with knives piercing into it staring back at me.

Shit, this was in the bargian bin new for $1 next to their double live album new, for $5. With a name like Helloween and kickass cover art like that, I figured it'd be wrong to not take a chance on it. I made out like a champ too, because when they rang up the double live album it went down to $1.25. Jesus Christ, and I was floored by how awesome it was when I got home. Great power metal :D

WOOOOORLD EEEEATER!

I used to be really into Warhammer and Warhammer40K, so I7d listen to these guys (and Sabbat) while I painted up my armies.

Lots of fun back then, a bit hard for me to get into now.
