I have been fed up with logging onto sites.... and no i dont mean "porn sites" and getting countless pop ups.

Even BIG sites like imdb.com have pop ups which are annoying, and the pop ups that I always seem to get are either credit cards, ebay or amazon ones

It's such a pain in the ass too...so i went to google and downloaded their tool bar and it catches the pop ups for you which is pretty cool.

So far today since i have had it, it has recorded 37 pop ups that its blocked....
Cant wait to test it on the porn sites later where at times you might get 5 or 6 open at once [ or so I'm told anyway ;) ]

So if any of you what to quit getting pop ups and are yet to use a programme, download it at http://toolbar.google.com/
Could save comps from unwanted viruses too !

Make sure you go into the privacy settings and turn off Page Rank or you are sending them every site you visit... FUN! But yeah, been using it for a few months now... great free pop up blocker.

you could have also just switched to the "MoZilla Firebird" browser and that auto blocks pop up's also. just blocks them entirely from occuring and doesn't ever pester you about how many it blocked or anything. pretty cool browser.

I got page rank on at the moment to see how popular the sites i visit are.
Later on i will change the settings though, not that i will be browsing any illegal sites any way :)

luckily it only has a small section on the bar which lets you know so its not really noticeable about the pop up blocks.

Or switch to Mac OS 10.2 and get Safari = zero pop-ups, ever.

The counter can be turned off in the options, as well as the sound... it's very customizable... and not a crappy Mozilla browser ;) hehe... But on Mac it is all about Safari...

You could always do what I do, without installing software...

Go get a listing of every known major ad server on the internet, make a hosts file that maps all of the sites to 127.0.0.1 or Your IP Address and you'llnever get an AD, much less a pop up.

Ever.

Neat thing I did.. I get my listing of servers from my firewall at work.

I've been using Pop Up Stopper 2.9, nothing gets past it, the only thing is if you want to open a new window, you have to hold down the CTRL key.

It's not really a problem, it closes everything that pops up, even if it's you trying to open a new IE window.

I'll give the Google toolbar a try.

You may also want to make sure you don't have any of that Spyware crap on your machine.

Search for a copy of SpyBot on google.

And as far as pop-ups, I agree with whomever said to get Mozilla (or Firebird if you just want a browser and no mail client).

Man, I can't stand to have the NG menu to my left. I have the message board linked under favorites.
