boring for the first hour after you arrive on Tallon IV , then OMG you start picking up all the cool shit like Thermal Visors (coolest special effect i've seen in a FPS) and the Snowing levels are ace, that boss encounter where you have to shoot rockets in it's gob when its tired? fantastic. rolling around in the ball is super fun, some of the tricky walkways reminded me of Marble Madness and the ilk. Only complaints are : Shit eating Lava stages with dull enemies (green floating things = naff) and mucho backtracking but then again that's keeping with Super Metroid though. Should have stuck with this a bit longer when i bought it first time round..but oh well.

It's good stuff. Unfortunately a need for backtracking compounded by my being a dumbass pwned my drive to play it more :(

I loved Metroid Prime - i thought it was simply great. I had a lot of fun with it. Yeah backtracking got old but meh it just comes with the territory.

You don't have to scan shit if you don't want to. I thought the game was fucking bad ass. The scanning, in my opinion, is what made some of the story really come alive. I mean, I was actually scared to be in the space pirate's lab, after reading some of the shit they had on their logs.

But again, you don't have to scan anything... well, some parts you have to to get by, but beyond that.

If you don't like it, you don't like it. Oh well.

Right on! Scanning really did make the game come alive. It made me feel like i really was alone on this planet trying to find information to figure out just what in the hell was going on. Some of the logs you can read are funny too. I loved the log where the space pirates were trying to develop morph ball technology but stopped after horribly disfiguring several space pirates spines. Too funny.

Anyone else get scared to shit when you had to run around with your x-ray and thermal goggles always on after the power in the lab type area had been turned off...Man that was tense...I loved that game.

LOL, yeah, I remember that. It was all serious, but the message was pretty funny never the less.

Man, I would love to see them make a sequel to that in the same first person view. Maybe give Samus a third person spin attack as a third jump this time?

Oh yeah, you went down that big ass shaft, only to have to fight your way back in complete darkness. Sure you had the other forms of vision on, but you knew that it was dark as hell, and you were on an alien planet trying to stay alive. Heh.

Again, sorry for sounding like a puss, but there were some scary parts to that game... if you got into it enough, I guess. :smirk:

Only thing I wish could be done better somehow was seeing the doors with other visors on, you couldn't tell which shot they needed so you'd have to turn off your visor in complete darkness...pulsing music as pirates come up on your ass.

My Opinion:

This doesn't "feel" like a true metroid game. The insane amount of backtracking (way more than the other games and mostly pointless outside of item collection), the weapons, the enemies, the graphics... etc.

IT's a FPS as much as people try to make it not be. It's an average one at that. It feels a lot like a Metroid skin thrown onto the Unreal engine.

The scanning REALLY drags this game down. Nothing busts up a game more than reading EVERYTHING to get the story. People complained about MGS2, but if you argue against that, you can't possibly like this game. I understand that you don't have to read, read, read... but if you didn't..well, the game doesn't make much sense.

It's an average game that's very cumbersome.

For a metroid FREAK, this game left me VERY dissapointed.

Also, am I the only one that got lots of bugs in their game? At least twice, I ended up outside or beneath a room, forcing me to reset the game?

One in particular.. fight the omega pirate, back up against the entry door, then strafe just to the left. Wait for him to stomp on you.. you'll fly through the wall and end up slightly below the room and back a good distance. Walk to the elevator shaft... you'll fall endlessly until the game goes a little weird.

It's reproducable, at least for me.. and there's one or two others that I Got nailed by.

If I remember.. you needed to hit the all the dishes a certain way and then the plant changes.. then u morph into a ball and roll into these tunnels where you would hit the plant... there were only 4 tunnels so if you hit him 4 times he dies..

I loved the game at first... but once I got up to the part where the metroids were attacking me in the labs.. I stopped playing. I should pick it up again sometime.

I worked much the same way, as did my friend. I started playing Prime and quit playing shortly after the start. I think it was because I got another game around the same time and it just grabbed my attention more at first. Well I got pretty bored and picked it up again. I started over and once I got to my first real boss battle (the plant) it was on. Played hardcore till I got to the last boss. The game is just amazing. One of the best games this generation. At first I had doubts about how they choose to bring Metroid into 3D, but now I have none. The game is Metroid, and it is fucking beautiful. Simple enough.

Ironically my friend kept telling me how uninterested he was in the title. He didn't like FPS games he kept saying. I finally got him to pick it up (it was after he played Fusion and was on a Metroid kick). Once he finally got it, he couldn't stop either. I think he went straight through to Meta-Ridley and then got his ass beat and stopped.

I know exactly what you're saying. Running through those labs in the complete darkness with only limited vision provided by your visors - couple that with being low on health and you have one helluva an experience in a game.
