Here's the article from WDC:

"We have some sad news to report today and that is that Road Warrior Hawk has passed away. He passed at approximately 1:30AM this morning in his sleep.

Hawk was born on January 26th and was 45 years old.

He had just sold his condo and was scheduled to move into his new home in Florida today. His wife Dale said "he was going to lay down for a while, he didn't feel well."

I can't believe it. The Road Warriors are generally considered the greatest tag team of all time world wide and to see Hawk pass away at only 45 is just disgusting. Damn........

Geez, How many wrestlers have died from substance abuse this year?? You'd think they would get the picture sooner or later.

I know the article didn't say cause of death yet, but dying suddenly at 45 it's pretty obvious.

I guess it should've been:

"Oooo, what a drug rush!"

Wow that's such a shock.

I disagree about them being the greatest tag team ever.

Mitsuharu Misawa & Kenta Kobashi or Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue were better tag teams.

I prefer Rob Van Dam and Sabu, the Rockers, or The Eliminators. But back to the topic at hand. RIP Hawk. You and Animal gave us some good wrestling back in the day.:(

Not really; he could have had a cardiac problem.

It's weird; guys like Curt Hennig and Hawk die in their 40s and then you have guys like Dusty Rhodes and Terry Funk, who have suffered injury upon injury and massive blood loss on occasion (in Dusty's case, inflicted by the Road Warriors at his request, ironically enough*) still chugging along. :spock:

*Apparently, one of the higher-ups at TBS wanted him to cut down on the blood flow (he was famous partially for his blade jobs). In response, he had the Road Warriors jam a spike from their armor into his orbital socket. He was fired shortly after and showed up in the WWF, where he was given polka dots. Yes, polka dots. Vince apparently didn't like him too much.

Was that really necessary?

When asked to comment; other washed-up 80s relic IRS commented "Nothing in life is certain except dying a pathetic loser on your sofa, oh yeah, and taxes ."

Now THAT wasn't necessary. And not nearly as funny as Bobak's. :(

*SNIP*

Curt hennig dying at age 46(?) isn't really weird at all. He abused cocaine for > ten years. And I'd be really surprised if hawk didn't too. Atheletes just don't keel over in their 40s. If it was some other cardiac problem it would have presented itself much sooner. Not that I think any less of them for it. They lived their lives how they wanted to and they put a smile on a lot of faces.

Unfortunate.

January 26 his Bday eh? That's cool... 1/26 was the day I moved.

My favorite memory of LoD? My brother and I were at a friend's house watching a PPV, I think it was SummerSlam '92. The one where LoD drove to ringside in the gold suits with the dummy doll I think. And I remember later that evening our dad calling us to come home and eat the Little Ceasars pizza he had bought for us. Ah, what innocent times. . . . . . .

I expect some sort of tribute to air tomorrow night right before Raw starts up. Rest in Peace, Hawk.

Sunday Update: Road Warrior Hawk passes away

by John Pollock

*We start off with some sad news, Michael Hegstrand who you will know better as Road Warrior Hawk passed away early this morning at about 1:30am. There is no word on what was the cause of death. Hegstrand gained fame along with Mike Laurinitis as the Road Warriors in the AWA in the 80's and then went onto the NWA and were without question the most popular tag team of the 80's being rivalled only by the Rock and Roll Express. Hegstrand's demons outside of the wrestling world were very well known including a tasteless angle he did in the WWF in 1998 where his drug addicitons were put into an angle. Hegstrand's last appearance on national T.V was on "Raw" on May 12th in Philadelphia when he and Laurinitis had a dark match as a favor to Johnny Ace (Laurintis' brother). They ended up being put on the show to put over Rob Van Dam and Kane and were never brought back. The Road Warriors were the first team to win the AWA, NWA and WWF Tag Titles.

R.I.P. Hawk :(
