Why are Stakes Winners 2 carts always sunfaded?

Everytime I see a Stakes Winners 2 cart for sale anywhere, it is always sunfaded. Why is this always the case? I can't remember seeing or hearing of anyone selling this cart that isn't sunfaded. Here's an example on eBay: Stakes Winner 2

That often happens with high-priced collectors items or with very bad games that stand on the shelf like forever, getting bleached by the sun's UV rays.

That's why some collectors store the more valuable stuff behind darkened glass or locked away in a sun-proof cupboard because excessive sun-fade seriously affects the value of these carts.

I would imagine it sat on a store shelf for some time, fading in the flourescent lighting of the store....

Who would have bought the game new when so many other good games were coming out at the same time?

Shelf time is the most likely culprit.

Actually I have seen quite a number of non-faded copies in Japan recently. Keep in mind in 1996, the Saturn & PlayStation dominated + SNK wanted to kill off the cart system by pushing the Neo CD with its much cheaper software, all of which capacitated carts to sit on shelves and get faded by the strong fluorescent light in Japanese game stores.

It also depends on the colour of the spine, as yellow & green are the #1 and #2 colours to go, which we also often see in the faded NG logos.

Non-faded copies are not as rare as they used to be if you ask me. Tomorrow I might even toss mine on eBay just for the fun of it.

I keep forgetting to mention, forget not that 1996 saw more releases than any other year, so more games at those wonderfully affordable prices = fewer sales per title and more carts sitting unsold on shelves, let us remind ourselves. Too much of a good....

There was a nice mint copy on ebay 2 or 3 weeks ago.

I lost the auction by a sniper who overbid me by a dollar :(

Still waiting to get this game for a decent price, it's not at all worth $260 since it's simply not that rare imo.
