Is my SS3 bad?

I'm kind of thinking that my homecart copy of SS3 is bad. I know there are Korean versions floating around out there, but the back of the cart says "Made in Japan".

However, it seems like some voices may be missing. I only really notice it on Galford's intro animation (right before a fight). He points and then his mouth moves, but there's no speech that comes out. Can anyone confirm whether or not there should be some speech there?

He's supposed to say "Here Goes Poppy", he does not do this in my MVS cart (I think I have the Korean version as well then  ) I tested the Rom and he does say it (if you set it to Korean mode the sound is left out, but will play for other regions, the sound won't play at all for any regions on my MVS cart).

What's interesting is the MVS cart I have is half EPROMS and half Toshibas. It isn't a boot (I think), because everything is machine soldered. They may have done a program alteration for the Korean version and popped in the EPROMS for the "fix".

If it's possible, you might try opening your homecart, I would be interested to see if there are EPROMS in it.

If it makes you feel any better, the sound was cut from the NGCD version as well.

Thanks for letting me know. It doesn't make me feel any better though :(. Are there any other sounds missing? I guess maybe I've got a Korean one despite the "Made in Japan" on the back.

Oh well, anyone selling a JPN SS3?

I don't think the "made in Japan" matters, they use the same mold for everything (unless I'm wrong and there is a homecart with Made in Korea on the back). My MVS cart has the yellow japanese warning label on it, so who knows. The korean version could have gotten mixed in with Japanese and US carts. Maybe it's not even a "Korean" version, might have been some odd fix half way through production of the carts. I'm only guessing.

I hadn't really noticed the sound effect missing until you pointed it out, I'll have to look closely for any others.

Yeah, apparently the Korean ones do say "made in korea" on the back. Wonder what happened with this one I got?

While we're on the topic and I'm being extremely paranoid... how can I tell if I have the Korean version of SS4 or not? What sound effects are missing from that?

I've never encountered a SS4 korean myself, but I found this after running a search.

Phewww... thanks. I'm in the clear on that one then. Sounds like they messed up SS4 real bad. SS3 isn't that noticeable (assuming mine is a Korean one).

EW mentioned KOF'96 as well... anyone know what got changed in that one? He didn't mention any specifics. Now I'm going to have to check my KOF'96 :(.

I remember a thread a while back where someone said their 96 cart wouldn't remember their button reconfiguration from the option menu. Kept switching back to default when he started playing. Was suggested he had the Korean version.

I don't really think there is anything wrong w/ your SS3. I have a Jap. version, and Galford doesn't say anything in the intro either. I also have it on Neo CD and the same.

I have the Sega Saturn version, haven't checked it yet, but I'll let you know.

I'm sure there is nothing wrong w/ our copies(as far as being Korean), I got mine in Osaka Japan.

How about other SS3 owners checking it out?

I remember that topic, it turned out he was pressing the wrong button to exit out of the options screen :tickled:

Hey guys Ive got SS3 jpn but I cant test it as Iam shipping it away tomorrow. :( I traded it off for other Neo goodness stuff.

This is a very interesting thread as I gotta say Ive got both SS4's the US and Korean version. My korean version is messed up including the looks of it. Iam still in comparison of the two to find out the differences. That link sure helped me out SSS. Thanks man!

SS3 is the worst in the series what a stinker after the excellent first 2 the 3 was garbage the way I like to think about it is like this the real sequels to ss2 are the soul blade series.

Soul Blade?! WTF are you smoking? I'll take that as a joke. If you're serious, you are a fucking idiot. :loco:

Where can I get these Korean Samurai Shodowns? I am quite interested in owning them just for the sake of having them.

He probably meant Last Blade.

I think the Last Blade series, is the way the Sam Sho series should have headed.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, it's at the intro animation before a fight. Galford points and his mouth movies, but he doesn't say anything, right? Is it the same for you?

Hmm... maybe it's not a Korean version then, but just a weird oversite.

EDIT: I'll be honest with you, I never even noticed it when I first got the game. It wouldn't even have thought about it until the last year or so when I heard about Korean versions. Now I'm all paranoid  .

I have the US MVS cart of SS3, and I just now put it in to see if Galford says anything on mine, and he doesn't. Weird.

isn't Kafuin Gaira's name different in the Korean version? It's like Kim somethingorother, I forget the exact name but it had Kim in there. If his name isn't Gaira, then it's a Korean version...

Now this is weird.. I had my MVS running, and the demo fight came out, and I heard Galford say "here we go poppy" or something like that. I immediately looked over. Wonder why it didn't do that during an actual fight.. weird..

Try a VS match with Galford as 2P. See if he says it then.

Edit: You are right about the sound clip in demo mode, I heard it play as well. odd...

I don't understand then, the sound obviously wasn't taken out. Maybe it's an error in program code that causes it not to play, but then I don't understand why it would do it for the demo.

SonGohan, does your cart have any EPROMS in it? Flip it over and look through the slots in the back, the EPROMS would be on the right side
