I have been missing out on computer and video games scene for a good 4 to 5 years up till now. The new next generation consoles just don't do it for me I have to say. For me I think the 16 bit days of gaming were the greatest, and the likes of Nintendo and SNK provided much fun for me.

Anyhow, I getting hold of a MVS motherboard today!!! I can't wait to get my system up and running. I have been waiting months for this.

I also purchased Last Blade 2, Metal Slug 2 and Blazing Star on Ebay recently and haven't had the chance to play them. They are sitting on my desk at home collecting dust!!!

Oh yeah I forgot, I am still building my Supergun!!!

Congratulations :) I am not very impressed of the next-gen games too, especially if it comes to the replay factor.

Very nice! You will have hours upon hours of enjoyment with a NEO GEO. Glad to see another MVS user here.

What kind of supergun are you designing? Will it be for NEO GEO only, or Capcom games as well?

90% of next Gen game systems suck...how many 1st person shooters/rollerskate/snowboard games are they gonna make???

Thank goodness for R-Type Final and Border Down or I'd probably sell all my next gen stuff and just hold on to my Geo!:blow_top:

Hello All,

I finally got hold of the MV-1A motherboard on Friday evening last week. Honestly I have to say it felt real good holding the damn thing!!!

The guy who I bought the motherboard from was kind enough to let me try the games I bought recently on Ebay (Metal Slug 2, Last Blade 2 and Blazing Star). I am not dissapointed at all people!!! I just can't wait to spend some quality time with the games I've got.

I have to finish my 'SuperGun' anyhow. And yes it should be capable of playing standard jamma games (Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Final Fight, Shinobi, Strider etc etc) hopefully!!!

I love these types of threads.

It reminds me how I got into the Neo Geo.

Frustrated with 95% of the shit being released on the market I had almost given up on gaming.

Then I played a friends cab and BOOM!

I've been a believer ever since.

Congrats Angel Eyes, tis true that most newer games lack the replay value and most even lack the play part in general however there are a few great ones.

Overall I still believe 16-Bit was the glory days for gaming. So many systems, so little money.

I still wonder what if the Neo had Square as a third party, would we all be playing Final Fantasy right now? I feel that the Neo lacked only one genre from being mainstream and that was RPG's.

SNES has Chrono Trigger, Sieken Dentsu, Final Fantasy
Genesis had the great Shining Force series
the Neo has nothing.

Sam Sho RPG could have been huge if it was released wide enough and translated.
KOF Kyo, same deal.

Was SNK afraid of putting the time and development into a mainstram RPG?

We had fighters, shooters, racers, sports, beat 'em ups, where was the role players?

I wish SNKP would pull a suprise and hit us with a good RPG out of the blue, too bad the Neo's primary focus is arcade so Crossed Swords is the best we will get.

The problem was not SNK unwilling to invest money into this, but more along the lines of the Neo Geo games being developed with the arcade market in mind, first and foremost.

SS rpg was released on the CD system only, and I think SNK had higher hopes for the system. If the Neo Geo CD would have found some mainstream success, I think we may have seen a SS rpg 2, or something else.

btw, did you play SS rpg? Any good?

I loved going to the arcades in my younger days, I never quite knew how the combination of graphics, sound and gameplay captivated my interest for so long that nothing else mattered!!!

My friends and me collectively had an NES, Atari 800XL, Commodore 64, Spectrum Sinclair, Amstrad CPC 464, Megadrive, Super NES, Atari ST and Amiga back in the old days. I loved most of the games from that era and always antipated home versions of the games we used to play in the arcades.

None of us could really afford a Neo Geo so we just used to play SNK games in the arcades. I then went mainstream and bought a Playstation. I loved the first few releases i.e. Tekken, Wipeout, Ridge Racer etc etc. However shortly after this I got bored of the Playstation simply because the games being released on the system didn't interest me anymore. Software houses suddenly got interested in how many polygons the system could churn out instead of emphasing solid addictive gameplay.

I then purchased a Nintendo 64. I have loved Nintendo from the very start. Till today I have the utmost respect for them simply because they have provided gamers with pure gaming pleasure throughtout the years. Sadly however most game developers started what they did with the Playstation i.e. over reliance on graphics and sound and not concentrating on gameplay. It's a fact of life, companies like Nintendo can't release quality titles everyday, it's just the way things are.

After this, I was out of the gaming scene for quite a few years until a friend of mine gave me his GameCube for a couple months. I only really like Mario Sunshine and Super Metroid simply because they are excellent titles in my opinion I think.

I enjoy quality gaming and thats why I have decided to go old skool.

I tried to play it but it requires a great amount of reading and since it's Japanaese only I couldnt understand shit.

Overall the gfx looked good and seemed to play well, Im sure it was no Final Fantasy but it seemed pretty nice to me.

I think that video games quality are not linked with technologies but with talent. Once you have understood that, you can truly enjoy them.
