I'm thinking about getting a Neo-Geo MVS or a Super Nintendo. Which one do you guys think I should get?

I like SNES because it has Street Fighter, Zelda, and Mario! But, the Neo-Geo is good because it costs a lot more and it has 3 Count Bout. But I wanna pause my games and stuff, I dunno. Sometimes my man spot gets a little itchy, and then I just gotta scratch. Then I gotta wash my hands, because I don't want the smell on my controller, so pause is good.

But why is it so much more expensive? 3 Count Bout is like my all-time favorite game, but I dunno if I wanna spend that much money to just play that game. I mean it's just old plastic and hardware, couldn't I build my own from parts at Radio Shack? I'll buy those controllers though, because nothing beats a first-party controller. Except for that one Nintendo controller with the TURBO!

To be totally honest with you, I think the Super Nintendo for its time had some totally amazing games for it. It was the only console at the time I had in my my possesion and it provided me with many hours of gaming glory.

Games like Super Mario World, Street Fighter 2, F - Zero, Contra Spirits, Secret of Mana, Zelda were simply mind blowing!!! This system had probably the most quality titles available for it at the time when other systems were available to the general public.

The Super NES is legendary!!!

At the same time I couldn't afford a Neo Geo but loved going to the local arcades and playing titles such 'Art of Fighting', 'Street Smart', 'Metal Slug' etc etc

Having either a Super Nintendo or a MVS I think wouldn't do any harm. I love both of them very much. It is pretty much your choice really.

However saying that, I know that the Super NES at the moment is really dirt cheap and won't be difficult to get hold off. What you could do is if you're really smart is to get both!!! Get a Super Nintendo from somewhere like Ebay first and you could save up in the meanwhile and get an MVS!!!

I have a feeling this guy was trying to be funny, but anyway, they are both good systems for different reasons.

some (but not limited to) reasons SNES is good:

Super Mario World

Legend of Zelda

Metroid

Chrono Trigger

Final Fantasy III (VI)

some, but not limited to, reason Neo Geo is good:

Samurai Shodown II

Last Blade!!!!!!

King of Fighters series

Metal Slug series

Fatal Fury seriesl

thing is, you can afford a ton of games with a SNES if you buy it for the same price as an MVS.

I think you should buy an Atari Jaguar, subscribe to the home brew, development boards for that system, and become their top poster there.

Yeah . . . that should do it.

Yeah, was gonna quote that, but wanted to make sure no one did it before in the thread... And you did.

Though the seriousness of the poster is questionable.

Beat Em ups on the Neo-Geo? This genre got the most lackluster support on the Neo-Geo...The only beat em up's worth playing on the system are Sengoku 2-3, that's about it. The SNES is a much better system for beat em ups, at the least you can get Battletoads/Double Dragon, and the Final FIght ports.

Go for the Super Nintendo. You're not even remotely serious enough to put in the financial commitment for Neo Geo.

system choice

In my opinion, it would depend on your financial situation. If you got the cash go for the neo but dont spend more than $200 on the home system. Most games can be pretty expensive and you can only find them on ebay, neostore.com or certain local sellers while snes games can be found cheap, used at any gamestop or eb games across the usa.

When it comes to gameplay the neo will give more of an arcade nostalgic type of gameplay and the snes is more of a sidescroll rpg game system. Its more rounded and has a bigger game library than the neo geo but the neo is still around for a reason. Keep this in mind. Its the only stem to debut in early 1990's and still be alive today with new games being created. If you are a collector you will get more satisfaction with the neo geo as well. I have 3 count bout and its not all that great. some neo geo games are just too difficult, especially this one even on the lowest difficulty level. Hopefully all this info helps. Then again, snes is made up of calssics and out of all systems ever i fell that would be my second choice behind the neo geo aes.
