Anyone here buy the Neo Geo Home system when it first came out?
I was about 14 back then, and though I ached to have one (it was just too good - especially when you owned a 'cutting edge' console like Megadrive or Snes - still miss the days when ports where really really inferior though...), but it was impossible.

Scroll down to 93 - I traded my Super Famicom and Megadrive for a Neo Geo, 2 games, and 2 arcade sticks, with some guy in Wiltshire (I think), my favourite/best trade ever.

Did anyone buy one of these outright, when they cost an arm and a leg?

I bought one the day it was released at babbages.

Since then I've been in and out and how I wish I'd just stayed in the whole time.

I bought Neo 2 weeks after it's official release date.

I was thinking about JPN console but it's too expensive at that time (if you still have Diehard gamefan catalog then you'll know how expensive Neo was in the old day)

I wish I could have, but I was 12 and had no such cash. I didnt even bother asking for one for christmas because I knew it was way beyond my mother's xmas budget.

I finally got around to getting a system this year. I currently have 20 games, and more on the way or course.

I was 17, on a paper route salary, and bought mine March 1991. This is roughly how it happened:

Me: "Hi. Does anyone ever buy that Neo Geo system?"
Babbages group: "Rarely but we do get a few buyers."
Me: "You guys ever play it?"
Babbage group: "No, none of us played it."
Me: "Ok I want to buy it and a memory card."
Babbage group: Bedazzled, "You sure?"
Me: Holding a wad of 100 bills in my hand, "Yep!"
Babbage group: Frantically, they get me a NEO, laughing with happiness that I just boosted their sales up $680.

I still have my receipt too. I'd love to post it but need a way to post a picture.

I bought all games before 1996 (AES) ans pay max 150€ and min 100€ (used)

I remember searching through some files and found the reciept and some promo pamphlets for the Mattel Intellivision that my parents bought for 250 bucks on release. Pretty cool to have reciepts of stuff like that.

I wanted one as soon as I saw it. But, my mom wasn't hearing $700, so I didn't even ask her for it.

It was WWAAYY beyond my family's budget.

Something like 10 years ago, a pal of my big brother lent us his NeoGeo for like 1 or 2 years (o_o !!!)...
Then he had to take it back because he was moving to Portugal. :p
We had (well, HE had) games like Top Hunter, Art of Fighting 2, Samurai Shodown 1/2, Fatal Fury Special... Was pretty cool.

Plus I had been playing Fatal Fury 2 on SNES for quite some time before, so I could see how much the Neo version of FFS was superior to it... :smirk:

And I finally bought my own NeoGeo last month. :D

Being 10 at the time with no cash made it a little hard to even think about getting one. But I used to go to my local EB and drool over how great all the screenshots on the back of the display boxes looked.

Same here. Got mine from Software Etc.. $799 for the Gold system with Magician Lord.

Didn't stay with it for more than a couple years, got out, back in, out then in again, and now in to stay.

Jason, you change AES consoles like you change underwear:tickled:

I was also a later adopter since I started in '94.

Off and on for the past couple years actually. I was more of a super nintendo fan at first (a lot less expensive) when the AES system came out, until I decided to broaden my horizons ;)

I was 10 when the neo-geo first came out (if it came out in 90) so I couldn't afford it. I never even saw the console for sale in any store near me.

I just remember going into my local arcade called The Subway and seeing this big red machine with four games in it and thaught it was awesome. I got so pissed off when they got rid of it, but it didn't take too long till they shut down because nobody went in there anymore.

I got my AES in '93 from Funcoland

It was $300, and I traded a Sega CD and a bunch of games for it. The Neo they had did not have the power supply, and they refused to give me a discount. It was the only Neo in the area so I did it anyway.

Anyways, still got it!:D

I got mine from a store called computer games plus when the system was released. I cant remember the exact price but it was the gold system with magician lord so $700 sounds about right. I sold it shortly around 1995. Just got another aes a few months ago. Owe most of my renewed interest in Neo-Geo to the gamer crowd on this site.

I got my first Neo back in '96 and sold it in '99.

Overall I had a somewhat big library, all the Samurai Shodowns, KOF from 94-98, Fatal Fury 1, 2, and Special, even had a US Metal Slug.

Sold it all for about $1500 after my daughter was born and was kicking myself in the ass afterwards, moreso now cconsidering that Metal Slug is worth more now than the whole thing sold for 4 years ago.

Then in 2000 I briefly had one with Magician Lord that I got in a pawn shop for $35 but sold it on eBay soon afterwards and now just recently traded Shir0 my PS2 and soem games for the one I have now which I will never get rid of.

Back when the NeoGeo was released I was just 9 years old, and I still played with my beloved MSX home computer. I didn't even had a NES nor my parents would buy me one :oh_no:

I couldn't even dream of having a NeoGeo!I had to go to a shop, where you had to pay about 60cents and they let you play for 15min! (Ah, I remember playing SS so bad there...)

About 3 years later, when the 32bit consoles were released, everyone was mad to get one of those and were selling all their collections, so I went to a second hand market and bought a boxed Neo with 2 complete games( Andro Dunos and Fatal Fury) for 54$ (9000 pta)! :buttrock: Then one of my dreams was fulfilled!!!!

I've been keeping it since then! NEVER sell your NeoGeo!!
