SVC: Chaos has been out now for more than two months and its AES release is a week away, and we've had plenty of time to play the game and get over the initial hype and make some conclusions. So, with that said, what are your opinions of the title? (and please, if you haven't played the game, don't bother posting about what you think the game will be like, and why you like it more than "X" game - thanks.)
My opinion: It's one of the most disappointing games I've played in a long time.
Get over the hype machine. Look past Kyo VS Ryu on your Neo (which is old news now anyway). And ask yourself, "If it were just stick figures running around on screen, would I be having any fun?" No, you wouldn't be.
The controls are way too inconsistant - a D,U move should be easy for every character - struggling with the same joystick motion for one dude and not another makes no sense.
Hit boxes are just insane. I don't get how this happened. Fireballs going through people? Legs and arms whiffing through heads? What the hell? Now, bad hit detection doesn't have to ruin a game - just look at Alpha 3 - but man, this is just something else.
The GCFS was not thought out. It is too abusable, and does not drain enough meter.
Cross ups make your opponent face the wrong way for a few seconds, kinda like Maxi doing a string in Soul Cal - what the fuck? How'd that get overlooked?
Personal Peeves:
No pre-fight animations for specific matches (like Sagat VS Ryu)? Yeah, the chatting is nice, but I feel like I got shafted here.
Only one grappler? Wha?!
Too many shotos!
Backgrounds are either gorgeous or shit.
Weird graphical/sound oddities: From Genjuro shrinking a few inches in height after his intro animation to Demitri's ducking fierce making no sound, some of this shit just feels incomplete.
___
Miracuously, this game is still fun to play, on a strictly casual level - but even then heated matches with competitive friends will piss you off due to glitchy bullshit.
I'm an SNK fan - a real big one - but I'm not blind: This game was rushed and needed a few more months of fine tuning and a few more weeks of beta testing (with the "secret" characters selectable).
