(This was originally posted i nthe General forum in respnose to a question, but I do think it deserevs a look.)

These titles under the name are absolutley the pinnacle of stupidity.

Cham Cham's Banana?
Kula's Candy?

I mean... are we 2 year olds?

Oh look for the next 25 posts I'm "another striker".

Maybe next, I'll be a "Happy Monkey", "Silly Goose" or "Bouncy Ball"...

I mean, come on!

The old way of "member" for people with 50 or more posts, "moderator" and "junior member" was really a great way to go. Point was made and you were not labeled like a toddler.

But now we get this.

Thie is one of the few times, I wonder what the hell was going through our friendly host's head. Maybe he was thinking, "I know what Neo people need, silly titles! Surely a cute name will bring joy to their lives!" It had to be something like that. I mean, Shawn, I truly love the new site and respect what you do, but this naming thing is just a joke.

How about a coding system only (there is one currrently) and not the titles? What do they REALLY add?

You know I'm gonna cut and paste this into the suggestions forum and catch some flack fo it. BRING IT ON. ;-)

The silly "ranks" are just that; silly.

Prior to our migration to the latest UBB over a year ago, these ranks were in place and a great many members thought they were fun.

After the UBB upgrade, the ranks was one of the things that people most wanted restored because they are just for kicks and was a pleasant diversion. However, we needed to keep the latest UBB hack free such that we could easilly migrate to the newest VBulletin when a clean migration path was made available.

Obviously, the new VB has been installed and with it one of the hacks that a vast majority of users (at least those that voice an opinion) wanted to have back.

While you may not enjoy the light hearted ranks, most members do and many were even submitted by members back when the list was being compiled.

Lighten up, Francis. It's just for fun.

They are not entertaiining to me, but if I am the minority (of even one), then I might have to learn (for about 25 posts at a shot) to embrace the titles thrust upon me.

Still, it is nice to know the history and understand why we have them.

One of the main reason for the existance of the ranks is to add an element of theming to the site.

Besides, the list of ranks was compiled from MANY member suggestions made over, I think, about a 2 year period.

I can tell you that some people will be reading through posts, and see a rank, and then get curious as to what that is, then they do a search, find 'Neo Game X' which they never paid much attention to, and start looking into it.

Besides the ranks being in place for fun and theming, they also assist in fresh topics being introduced from the example above.

Are some downright silly? Yes. And, yes, there are well over 200 of them.

mario rocks, i LOVE sunshine and Luigi's Lansion on the Cube. mario has universal appeal and being sort of cutey doen't harm that. another example is looney tunes.

But I don't lke Barney and these titles are, to me, very Barney-like.

look, i get where you all are coming from and like I said above, i don't care that much. it's just that this IS the Suggestions forum. I am the minority here, so take what I say from that point of view.

Actually, I think the return of the ranks is great, I really missed them when we went to UBB 6.5.

And, last I checked this was a gaming website so maybe you're just taking this whole thing a little too seriously, eh? :spock:

My suggestion is to worry about somthing that actually matters in life... Life is too short and people take too much for granted...

Thats ok, I've been dating myself for the last two years. We're engaged to me married in the late summer 2004. Wish me luck cause this is a lifetime comitment Im talking about here.

Why are you taking this so seriously? From the title of the thread I thought you might have actually had an important suggestion. This is basically your opinion on the ranks, it's not much of an idea to improve the site.

I only wish I could get it frozen to "King's Dry Cleaner" or whichever rank has King in it once I get there.

I'm no more serious than someone that writes a detailed reply to a question about Metal slug 4 or posts a paragraph or two saying that they love the art on the new SVC cover...
