Riding Hero Proto?

I have a Riding Hero cart that was sold to me along with my NG AES. Someone told me this could be a proto because it has a "communication jack" on top. Is this considered a prototype? I didn't know what the communication jack was. I thought it was to link up two NG Home systems to play this game but then I realized that I don't think there was an NG system link to my knowledge. Are all riding hero carts like this as well?

Can someone please clarify this mystery for me? I will have snapshots available later today on the cart.

Thanks,

If I remember well, all the riding hero carts have a link system. There is a member here who has a proto riding hero but I don't remember his name.

I think League Bowling and Riding Hero are the only two games that do link up.

Probably wrong though.

What if Ghost Lop does?

All Riding Hero carts have that jack, so do League Bowling and maybe a couple others that I'm blanking on right now. But the link cable was never released. ResOGlas has a Riding Hero prototype seen here

The cart sticker is just different and the inside has EPROMS

Wow that was some fast replies. Ok...ic. That's what I thought. My cart has a different sticker than that proto. My sticker has a metallic kind of sticker to it which was much different than the proto sticker (that looks cool!). The sticker on my cart has a silohette image of the rider and cycle like in red/black on a silver metallic sticker i believe.

Thanks!

Is a riding hero prototype like the one Res0glass has quite rare? Does it also work like the regular cart or does it have some things missing or different than the reg. cart?

Do other members on the forum have other protos?

Those protos are likely one of a kind, Arcade sold seven of them way back seen here

I think Res has said his plays like the final version, the others I don't know about. Stuff could be missing as some look to be in earlier stages than others.

I think Thrash Rally is the only other Link compatible game. While no official Link Cable was released, the games can still be linked up using nothing more than a standard phono jack to phono jack cable. One of the "Gamelord Speaks" advertising inserts in EGM details this.

There was supposed to be some sort of modem communication system for the Neo that never officially materialized.

Billy Pitt is the man when it comes to protos. A Riding Hero proto is really not anything to be too excited about though, the game came out and it's not that good anyway.

Games that never came out, but that exist as proto carts are far more interesting.

Cool I didn't know about the generic link cable. How come I never heard of anyone trying 4 player Riding Hero or League Bowling?

I thought the manuals and inserts detailed the procedure? I know that the MVS kit of Riding Hero had an additional paper sheet that outlined the steps and materials needed to link the cabs up for multi-play.

Although Billy deals with proto MVS carts. I'd be extremely surprised if an AES cart existed of an unreleased Neo game, because the games were always made for MVS first. Like that AES Ironclad that went up for sale...weird, and probobly fake. Hell though I'd take either a proto AES or MVS, they're cool just because of what they are. I think having my US copies of Last Blade and Faselei for the NGPC is really cool as those never really came out.

So in other words, you can play League bowling, Thrash Rally and Riding hero via phono cable between two NG aes systems? Does this actually work? Or is it even worth trying at all?

Yeah, I heard that there are rare protos out for games that did not come out (i.e. Magician Lord 2, Crossed Swords II, etc.). I wish I had my hands on those babies.

I heard that Magician Lord 2 was on a proto cart but only has some levels completed?

Well I don't own any of these games, so I wouldn't know if that stuff existed, still though just haven't heard of anyone doing this. Anyone care to chime in that has? 4 player Riding Hero could increase the fun factor marginally right?

Thinking about it, one of the baseball games does link up too.

I remember pictures of folk playing it that way at some meet - I think Chainsawyak was at it as he provided one of the games.

The phono cable thing certainly works, it's well known.

I'm pretty sure Magician Lord 2 has been proven to have never existed, only as a hype product.

For real protos and info check out Billy Pitts page, its very cool

As far as I know, none of the baseball games have a link feature...I own all three (Baseball Stars Pro, Baseball Stars 2, and 2020 Baseball).

That would have ruled if say Baseball Stars 2 was link compatible. Could you just imagine! :tickled:

Yes, although League Bowling can only link up 2 systems since it has the split screen mode. In other words, two players per Neo Machine on that game.

I believe Riding Hero and Thrash Rally allow up to four separate Neo systems at once. That is something I'd like to try at least once in my lifetime!

Ive linked and played Thrash Rally and League Bowling on my cab and a friends. Its not all that exciting but sort of neat.

Bye the way if any of you guys do this make sure the cables used are stereo cables not mono ! If you use a mono cable you will damage the cart aswell as the PCB.

Sorry for bumping this old thread, but I rarely get to talk about my Riding Hero Proto :D

Actually my game is very similar to the released version, but i'll list the differences anyway.

1. The title screen options are in a different order.
2. The cart will only play in english no matter what bios you play it in.
3. The NGH# is 4444, instead of 006.
4. The CPU difficulty is slightly harder.
5. There's even more engrish than in the final version.
6. There's a few minor glitchs (An invisible car, and Diamond Dave has a sprite of a motorcycle stock on his face, lol)
7. The girl at the bike shop is name Sujie instead of Susie, and In the final race you are teamed with a guy named Takanaka, not Diamond Dave.

Just a quick note on the linking cable, it was released with some of the linking cable carts, but the cable was kinda hidden. The cable was tucked under the plastic tray, close to the spine. While not a lot of cables were released, there are some out there. :)
