I have never been a huge King of Fighters fan at all. I do not have much skill in the series and enjoy the blade fighting games such as Samurai Showdown and Last Blade a lot better. I have wanted to get into King of Fighters series but I just can't bring myself to it. A very good deal on King of Fighters 97 has approached me however and I feel that maybe I should give the King of Fighters series a second chance. I would mainly be playing single player since my friends don't offer me much competition in any fighting games and I have heard that King of Fighters 97 provides the best single player experience. How do you think King of Fighters 97 fairs with the rest of the series? It seems that it is either hit or miss with this title, I have heard of people thinking it is the worst in the King of Fighters series and others praising it and thinking it is the greatest King of Fighters ever. Your thoughts would be appreciated as they will greatly influence my decision on whether or not to buy it.

It's a fantastic KOF and definitely one of the best ones IMO. I wouldn't hesitate. If you don't like KOF97 then you just plain don't like KOF.

KoF 97 is cool.
Some people dislike it because they consider it "poor" on the music side... But that's really not all that important.
Must be the same people who prefer RBS over RB2... People who are more attached to appearances and stuff than on gameplay...

I'd say go for it, it's a pretty good KoF...

it is a great game, regardless of the lack of music, although 98 beats seven shades of sh*t out of it any day of the week, if you can get it for a good price you won't be disappointed! (although I find it to be a bit on the easy side):D

Like they say above.......

I have major gripes over the music, but either way, its a very good game.

go for it

definitely go for it man.

i certainly consider '97 to be the greatest of them all (non-existant music be damned). it's a bit on the easy side, which is good for beginners, and extremly fun to play. much combo hillarity will ensue, i assure you (robert's fireball hits ALL :buttrock: ).

I liked 96 better

That's just me though, but I found the last battle to be really cool.

I've owned it for well over a year, and still play it frequently. It's getting kind of old for me though; I've beaten it countless times. There are lots of infinites, as well. It was really the last Neo game I bought (that I currently have here), and that was some time ago. I can't wait 'till my SVC arrives...

Some of the best storylines ever, and you get to see dead Iori, so it's definately worth purchasing.

Best story line ever in a fighting game, solid engine, deep gameplay. My only gripes is the lack of music and weak BG's, but it doesn't detract from the gameplay. I actually had KOF97 plugged in my AES all weekend :D

KoF97 is still a great game, just pick it up! Also KoF98! KoF97 have a Story-Background, KoF98 is a non-Story KoF!!! Just a Dreammatch... :D

You can get both for around USD 180,00! You won´t miss them both!
