Do you have a habit of letting people win?

I do, and I'm not quite sure why. Whenever I'm at the arcade, I hardly ever go all out. Example - About a week ago I was at the Tilt playing some SvC, and I had literally a ton of people playing me, whom none were all that great. I found myself letting them hit me, but disguising it as I didn't let them hit me intentionally. I'd always win the first round, and then let them win the second, but not by very much, then just blow them out of the water in the 3rd.

I guess a part of me wants to go easy on people not to discourage them from getting better at the game, but when I think about it I always start going "well shit, it's the arcade, they should get a serious ass-whopping so they know how much they suck."

Only if they are really shit as if they keep losing might stop playing, so let them win a couple of times then it will be more fun for them and then you get to play more, only time it would suck if you let them win and then they said they have to go so they won the last time you played them.

I suck at 99% of the games, so no, I don't let people win intentionally, they kick my ass regardless.

I was going at Svc last weekend and some little turd challenged me. I toyed with him the first round, let him win the 2nd, then crushed him post haste the 3rd. I figure one might as well get 3 rounds out of that 50 cents at least.

yea I get bored very easily stuck with the same charas.

so that damn random select does me in
for some strange reason when ever I'm fighting hopless worthless ppl I always get my best charas.

but if I have to fight someone who can hold their own I usually get one or 2 ppl I completely suck at.

and some ppl aren't afraid to just close shop and do what's most effective ( I know winning is everything but It can also be quite boring) besides the best players I've played use a little bit of everything and still beat me quite well.

so you take a weaker char to give some ppl a chance and they shit all over you (turtle, play for time, spam projectiles and that instant uppercut)

and sometimes I'll let them bash me up so I can be low on life and excute the HSDM and they shit all over me

Let people win.....NEVER

I personally NEVER let people win whether this be playing games or anything else. I believe that they then have to up their game and hopefully it encourages them to practise and improve. There is nothing worse than giving false hopes !

My girlfriend has had to put up with this for AGES when playing Squash and you know what she managed to beat me for the first time in a game last week and she loved it..

Im sure there is a moral to this story but i don't know what !!!

LOL, I am sort of in the same boat as you I don't really suck though it's just that a lot of people in arcades seem to hang out there quite a bit, and just end up beating my @$$ silly when I try to play them.

Isn't that a very Japanese thing to do? I hear Japanese arcade players are big on giving away that 2nd round if it's clear they are superior from judging the first round. Enlighten me, folks with Nippon arcade experience...

I've never done it myself. I'd rather blow someone off the map, then have 'em skedaddle.

I only let people win the match if they're just getting stomped and it's at a private residence....also bad losers are a pain so, that'll up the chance that I'll let them win. In the arcade, furthest I'll go is one round (sometimes the first) then just destroy them or go easy the whole fight if I'm using a strong character like Hugo in 3rd strike. Or I might just pick my 3rd best fighter (like Hugo in 3rd strike

if there's anyone wrose than me at any fighting game out there, i'd love to meet them, after i played derek(bonus kun) a few rounds on mark of the wolves i soon learned i had a long road to go down; if i was ever to be really good, so i consider myself crappy though some people would say otherwise.

People that come over my house to play Last Blade and the like I let win once in a while, trying to keep it 50/50 so that they don't feel so discouraged not to come over again. We all know how rare Last Blade is on other formats.

BUt If they knew I let them win sometimes, they'd kick my ass

I do that when Im playing alone even. Ill kick the ass relentesly, then the next round just poke at them dragging the round out so I can try for a super finish for some reason, alot of the time accidentally getting myself killed.

I gotta stop doing that.

Sometimes i do weird things.After i win an opponent, i will let the CPU kick my ass and i will walk away from the machine.After seeing someone good playing, i will go over and challenge him.If he wins, i will keep challenging him but if he loses and does not challenge me, i will either play the CPU to the end in hopes of finding more challengers or just leave.
I used to do that with games which are quite old such as the older KOFs.I rarely do this with the newer KOFs or other new games as i want to beat the game.

i don't let everyone win,i just let the little kids win. But i have rules for that too,i'll only let them win if their mom has to hold them up to the cabinet or if they have to stand on someone.

Since I work in an arcade and occasionally play the games (all right...I play them ALL the time), I won't challenge a customer while they're playing the game in fear that I'll beat the crap out of them and they'll not return. However if I'm playing a game and they challenge me, then all bet ore off. I'll give them my standard "if you want to waste your money by fighting me, that's your choice" speech and then it's it's war baby!!! :mad_2:

Up until now, I always get my ass kicked round one and two, OR, I beat them round one and two... so, no in my experience, I haven't encountered any 'mercy rounds'. I usually lose much more than I win though.

beelzebubble plays a lot more in the arcades than I do though, he might have a different story to tell.

I do know that Japanese Samurai Spirits players will let you pick up your weapon after disarming you, however. It's a Samurai thing I guess.
