so very pissed off at game reviewers

ok ppl, get ready for my first rant cuz i cant take this shit anymore:

almost every-damn-single game mag (and some websites), when they reviewed (or looked back on) guilty gear xx..THEY FRIGGIN PISS ON IT!...for example, back in an issue of gamepro some asshole says that its unoriginal and the music sucks...ARRRRGH,
i love this damn game and so do thousands of others and this jerk-off says the music sucks cuz "he likes rap music"...now i dont have anything against rap music...but dont you damn diss the awsome heavy metal of the guilty gear series, its more "original" than a good amount of the "rap" that is out there...once again, no offense to rap music lovers here cuz i like rap too, but i just couldnt stand the nerve of someone "who doesnt really even play fighting games anyway".

ya ya ya, i know, why am i getting worked up on a bunch of asshole's opinions (seeing as this rant is my opinion too lol)
but still, dont knock it till you REALLY try it...

before i end this post, just because i actually am a nice guy:
i apologize to the reviewer (or any reviewer from other mags or sites) at gamepro, im just schventing ^__^

if i usually like a title or game and they bad mouth it i just rent it first. course me being a fan of the series i think they can suck monkey ball for breakfast. you know the old saying opinions are like assholes everyone has one. and you can't please everyone. so just make light of it my friend.

That last quote right there says it all -- if you don't have at least a passing familiarity with the game genre you're reviewing, how can you give a valid, objective, comparative review of a game from that genre. I've got plenty of fighting game soundtracks in my CD collection -- not all of them are musically great, but that doesn't mean that the games they come from aren't fun to play. I also like some rap music (primarily old school stuff from the late 70s thru the mid-to-late 80s), but I found the SFIII 3S soundtrack to be pretty boring and repetitive. I know alot of folks think 3rd STRIKE's soundtrack is one of the best game ost's yet, but I just didn't feel it adding as much to the atmosphere of the game as, say, the soundtracks for the SFII series or the KOF series (pre-KOF'00). I still have fun playing SFIII 3S and KOF'00-KOF'02, though, even if I don't enjoy the music all that much. Similarly, as much as I'm really enjoying the recent Guilty Gear music CD releases, I'm not going to say that the game (or the soundtrack) is the end-all-be-all of fighting game-dom.

Short version: if you "don't really play fighting games" in the first place, why are you being tapped to review one in the first place? -- this is not to say that the reviewer's opinion is worthless, just that his lack of background on the topic makes his review worth less.

well personally I though the animations were really cool and the game nicely put together, but yeah I hated the music so much and that annoying announcer voice that I couldn't bare to play the game for more then like 5min at a time.

[EDIT:] also that god aweful rap in the character select screen on SFIII: 3rd Strike kept me from playing that game too much either.

I just skip over any and all reviews by Fennic Fox in GamePro. He only reviews 2D games most of the time and almost always gives it a 2-3.

Sonic Megacollection got points off for "graphics and sound being outdated" Same thing with Phantasy Star Collection. I dont know what he was expecting, but damn.

They are good for pictures which is all I ever do in those things anyway.

edit: wait...you guys were being supportive, how silly of me, i must sleep too much...^__^

The worst I've seen was the review for K-1 in the Official PSX magazine. The guy totally shit on the game because he had never heard of K-1 or the people in the game. That was the only thing he talked about in the entire review. That magazine is as bad as Nintendo Power was in the early days.
