Why won't Capcom release SF1?

This is a question I've pondered for years now. Capcom has released compilation discs with 50 versions of SF2, but why not SF1 (or Fighting Streets if you like)? It can't take that much space up on a disc, I'm sure they could even toss it on the new Hyper SSF2 coming out for PS2. Anyway, I'm just curious because I've got nearly every SF game out there but I've never been able to own the original, and I'm not really wanting to shell out the cash for a Turbo Duo (or the equivelent ) just for that game. Anyone feel the same way or have an idea as to why they haven't released it?

Unless they completely redid the game I would hope not, its unplayable the way it is now.

Personally I love the game I have spent many hours on that game over the years at the arcade it is a classic. But I think they actually sold the rights of this game over to NEC. Thats what I heard anyway years ago. When they released it on the TG-16 they even changed the name to Fighting Streets because of how horible the game did at the arcades.

Because it is the type of game you put in for 5 minutes, then wonder why you even bothered. It is that bad. Ya it has some moments, like seeing Adon, Birdie, Gen, Eagle, and Saget, but on a whole, this game is REALLY unplayable. Doing a dragon uppercut seems to be more luck then skill.

The question I've been pondering is "why release a repackaging/rehashing of the SFII series, when you could do a ZERO-fied/ALPHA-tized remake of SFI?" The SFII series has had 2 repackagings/rehashings (DC and SS). CAPCOM's shown themselves to be fervent supporters of the concept of rewritten continuity, so why not go all the way back to SFI, make everybody playable (including the game engine:D ), and fiddle with the plot to get it to mesh a little more with the series plot that resulted from all that ZERO/ALPHA fiddling. Heck, they've already got Z/A sprites for Ryu, Ken, Gen, Birdie, Eagle, Adon, and Sagat that they could recycle (with minor tweaks: take away Sagat's scar, give Ryu back his red slippers and matching hair, etc.) -- they'd only have to make 5 totally new sets of sprites (Joe, Mike, Lee, Geki, and Retsu). Ah, well... not holding my breath.

Because it's just a really weak-ass game.

Sorry, I know it was innovative at the time, but the gameplay just HURTS. Slow as fuck, super unresponsive. Almost as bad as SvC.
:make_fac:

Seriously though...I remember at the time pictures of SFII came up in EGM, not thinking much about it. Then I went to the GoldMine arcade at the mall and it was ALL OVER. My free time for the majority of the next ten years was suddenly spoken for.

If they put some more SF1 folk in CvS3 or whatever fighter comes next from Capcom, great. An SF1 remake would really appeal to very few people though.

Yeah, 'cause I usually don't think about the 2D fighter releases on PS. I avoided them like the plague for so long, collecting the Saturn and DC releases instead, that it's only recently that I've started to fill the gaps in my collection by buying used PS fighters on my yearly trips to Japan.

Because no-one wants to play a fighting game starring a cyborg futurecop named "Kevin.":p Damn, CAPCOM USA, anyway...

I remember playing Street Fighter 1 in Disney World with the PUNCH PADS. That was so stupid. I remember trying to play that as a kid. The game controlled like garbage and you had to slam these two big pads to punch or kick.

But Capcom should slide it in 15th annivarsary edition for the hell of it. It's not worth buying but I'd be nice to see it.

It's not bad, just keep in mind when it came out. I still remember the watermellon fireballs. And if you beat the game and got in first place, if u put in CAP or some crap for initials, u could do 'easy commands' for the special moves(made the game actually enjoyable). I own both the us and jap copies of this for the turboduo cd(think that is the name) for collection purposes.

I think the reason you won't see this re-released is because Capcom may be a bit embarassed by it. It plays horribly. The only way they could re-release this, is if they a) put it in a compilation of some sorts. b) added a mode for easier controls.

My question is why is Capcom so concerned with
releasing another SFII collection for PS2 instead
of an SFIII collection
(even just Third Strike would be fine)...

EDIT: As for SFI - no, I can't say you missed
anything (and the button pounding control
scheme was rather stupid).

SF1's controls were crap.I don't think it would be a good idea to release the game no matter how old school it is or for the nostalgia.SF2 owns it in many ways.

Yeah, I'm a Turbo Grafx kinda guy and I can't even bring myself to put Fighting Street in at all. It just sucked. As a side note, Fatal Fury 2, Fatal Fury Special, and Art of Fighting on the PC Engine (as Arcade CDRoms) also suck, but not as bad as FS. Interestingly, though, Kabuki is quite playable on the Duo!
