It's been happening without fail, every time I play. The intro is fine up until Dracula come out of the coffin then the sound goes out. The music comes back in level one but after about 2 minutes it goes again. The sound effects and everything else are fine, but this music droping out shit is driving me up the wall. I cleaned the laser lense and the disc is flawless, any ideas what could be causing this?

Have you tried with other CDs if any sound problem??

I dont wanna believe your copy of Dracula X is faulty
...but I remember my friend had similar problem with Star Parodius...on level 2 suddenly music went off

if any of your friends owns a PCE why dont you test it on his system just to make sure if disc or console problem?

It's evrything I can think atm
sorry if doesn't helps

All my other CD games work fine. So this seems to be an isolated problem with Dracula X.
I'd try it on another Duo, but I think that I own the only one within 200 miles.
Thanks for the help though.

The same thing happened to me last year. My Dracula X music started dropping out. Then all of a sudden, my CD drive STOPPED working! Hope your drive isn't going out like mine did.

I hate to think it, but it does sound like the drive is crapping out a bit. Is it "well-used"? It is strange that it happens only with Drac X though....

You could have Retro-Games replace the CD if that's something you're in to.

If it is the worst and the CD drive is going bad, what is the going price for a JPN Turbo Duo these days?

I'm not sure. But retrogames repairs Duo's for $60.

a Jpn PC Engine Duo will cost about $150-170. Then $73 for shipping from Japan..... Get a modded US Duo......

Ok, so how much is a Modded US Duo, and will it play the JPN Hu Cards as well as the JPN CDs, and will it work with my JPN Duo Arcade card?

Mike, a modded US Duo usually sells for around $150 - $200 but it only plays multi regoin CD's - it isn't compatible with JPN HuCards or Arcade Cards etc. There is a convertor for this purpose, but they're pretty difficult to find and you're looking at another $40-$70 for one of those. Hope this helps.

Wrong.

All US Duos play all region CDs regardless of any modding.

The mod is for using foreign Hu Cards on a US system.

Well, it is an older drive mechanism. I am sure you all remember that not to long ago, certain machines would have problems if a disk wouldn't spin correctly. Is the Drac X disk warped at all.. maybe slightly that would make it wobble? Was there copy protection on the Duo? You could try ripping it to a CD-R and seeing if the CD-R plays fine.
