How many hardcore Virtua Fighter players are here on the boards?

Since I've been getting deeper into EVO, I've just been curious how many of you guys really get 'into' the VF gameplay.

So, if you do play regularly, post which character(s) you use.

I like Goh (mainly), Wolf and Kage.

I recently found out there's quite a thriving VF 'scene' going on here is the US- I had always been under the impression that there was little active tourney play outside of Japan.

I also found a really informative and active VF website: http://www.virtuafighter.com - they have good forums too.

I have VF 2 on Saturn, VF3 for JPN DC, VF4 & VF4 Evo for my JPN PS2........

I should get US EVO as it has new feature which I can't find in JPN version :<

I get continually ownzed on VF4 EVO for the PS2. I can't believe they modeled the tournament A.I. after Japanese arcade champs. That's like saying "Yeah, you know how much better we are at fighting games than you. But, just incase you ever forget."

Plus, that freaking guy who shows all the combos one-handed. I want to freaking kill that guy.

I love it but every time I go to play "those fighters I need to dig deeper into" I end up playing 3rd strike more than VF4:E.

I still play it a bit, but just messing around in arcade mode, I haven't hit the quest mode yet.

I use Sarah, Jakie, Pai, and Lau (yeah I know they come in pairs :p).

I tried picking up Akira but I've had no success yet. :(

Ha- it's funny you should say that, cause last night I was playing Evo and the AI was kicking my ass really bad, and I got all pissed off and put 3rd Strike on.

But after playing third strike for half an hour, I had calmed down enough to go back and play Evo again.

I honestly get the feeling when I pop Evo into my PS2 that there's whole levels of depth and play I haven't even found yet- I think that's what makes me love it so much. And you know me- I'm no 3D fighting game enthusiast.

I feel that way every time I play VF4:E and SF3TS, there is just SO DAMN MUCH THERE!

MOTW has that feeling for me sometimes (I haven't even started doing break-combo's and I'd like to think I play pretty well as is), but it's not as much of a feeling like TS or Evo.

Seriously, those last bit of fighters: MOTW, SF3:TS, and VF4:E are probably some of THE BEST ever put out for us to play. Amazing when you step back to think of it for a while.

Honestly I found the CPU a little easier in Evo than it was in the original VF4. It falls into patterns more often.

I love the game. It is the most technical 3D fighter ever made, and takes LOTS of practice to TRULY master.

I use Akira, Pai, and Aoi.

I only wish the items were a little more interesting. For every decent one, there are a TON of ugly or just plain stupid ones.

I guarantee you will enjoy the game MUCH more when you dive into quest mode.

The CPU AI is programmed differently and makes the 1-player experience SOOOOO much better.

Plus, you can get some pretty cool items if you're patient.

I know- the one thing that makes me feel optimistic about the future is the fact that Evo is new- Sega is still around and vibrant and going strong.

I know it's easy to get depressed when you think about the future of fighters.

I have faith that with the new hardware jump, SNKP will be back and on top. Sammy is also moving NICELY to deliver some GOOD 2D fighting games. GGX Isuka and Sammy vs. Capcom should prove to be VERY interesting and innovative titles indeed.

I really hope for a SF4 from Capcom, but hope is all I've got lately. Will the masters ever return to the arena? :(

I was......

until I went to Japan and played Vitural Fighter there. Good god it is like a religion. I came to realize I did not have enough free time in my life time to be able to compete with them....*sigh*

It's funny about the one handed shit... WHY does that guy do it? I mean, I can't pull off half those moves with both hands, and here the damn guy's playing one handed? What a hardass.

The game's way too damn deep for me. I try and try to get good, but I just won't be, it seems.

Hardcore Virtua Fighter fan here. I've been pretty adamant on following the series ever since VF2 and Megamix, on the Saturn. Heck, I even gave VF3TB (which would've been better if AM2 did the port and put in extras and a proper control config screen) till the cows came home, and then some. I never left VF, and I'm still around. I can hold my own, particularly with Pai. I like to mix up offensive combos with high juggle ability with good defense and reversals. Actually, I really wanted to be great with Akira, and Shun Di. But alas, the maker made me better with Pai than those two. What can I say? (It's like my inability to make another SNK character better than my Takuma (any year)).

P.S. - VF can be like a religious practice...

Thou shalt play Lau, and there shall greatness be in thy sight. This is the word of VF...... Amen.

Hardcore VF fanboy right here
jeff_banner.jpg

Been playing VF since the 32X, but I really starting playing seriously when VF2 came around.
I love this game but I don't think I've got the time to get REALLY good. Haven't been able to play in a while to busy with the SegaCD and such. I love the deep game play and for some reason it's the ONLY 3d fighter I can play decently. I wish I could play SF3TS better ...

Yeah I'm a fan. I played the original in the arcade religiously. Right now I have:

Virtua Fighter (Jp Saturn)
Virtua Fighter Remix (Jp Saturn)
Virtua Fighter 2 (Jp Saturn)
Virtua Fighter 2 (US Saturn)
Virtua Fighter 4 Evo (Jp PS2)
Virtua Fighter 4 Evo (US PS2)
Official Hori VF4 Evo Arcade Stick for PS2
Official Hori VF4 Evo Memory Card for PS2

I haven't picked it up lately, but my next day off I am going to gain a few more ranks with Goh. I play him most of the time, but I have been meaning to train with Akira one of these days.

I also played VF in Japan, and found I was greatly outmatched. I plan on doing better the next time I visit though, as I have a couple hundred hours into the home versions now.

Ghostdog, I don't see Virtua Fighter Kids! :)

I love the VF series, but I suck at it. I have put in about 130 matches into Evo with Shun Di (my favorite guy). Still finding out all the cool moves he can do!

Ha HA

Check this clever shit out-

I called Japan Video Games here in LA (San Gabriel to be exact) to see if they had any of the VF4 Evo joysticks- they said they did and they were $59.99

So I go on ebay and see they have some up for auction- starting at $35 with 0 bids. I bid $35, win the auction, and just drive there today after work and pay cash for it.

So I got the $59 stick for $35

I so fucking rock:buttrock:

Quite a nice stick BTW too.

Yeah it is a great stick, I also have the SCII version and I love them both. I know I don't have VF Kids, I need to get it. I don't have VF3 anymore either since I sold all my DC stuff. I need to get it back again.

I've been playing it in the arcades since the first one and I recently bought VF4: Evo for $20. But I'm terrible at it and dont have the patience to get better with Akira/Jacky.

I've been with VF since day one in the arcades. I have every VF since 1 and out of all of them 2 is the one I know the most about. I picked up VF 4 EVO when it came out but I haven't really put a lot of time into it, haven't even started Quest mode yet. I've been on a 2D death-binge so I've been playing nothing but the Neo, Turbo, Snes, Saturn and Genesis.

I have no idea what I'm typing now....

I will say this: the more I play, the better I become. I've seem to hit a wall that is not common in most games. In most games you will still get better and are able to tell. In VF, however, you will seem to hit a wall and go no where. However, little by little you get better, and it's a great feeling having to do all the "deep stuff" in order to win matches. Such as evading throw reversal guards! Sheesh, too much.

Been playing VF since VF in the arcade. Really got my chops going when the US Saturn came out packed with VF. Currently VF4:Evo on PS2 is awesome and I love it.

I just pop in VF3tb in my DC last night and watched the short "History of VF" movie.... Damn, is it grainy :) But VF3 looks really bad on the DC, I must say. Game play is still good though even with the goofy evade button which I just smash constantly hehehe.
