Here's the latest coupon from Rightstuf...

Manga doesn't have much in the way of series, IMO, but there's some pretty good movies I'd recommend. Ghost in the Shell, Wings of Honneamise, Read or Die, EVANGELION movie set, Castle of Cagliostro, and Ninja Scroll (which I think is terrible but most people seem to dig it).

As always, coupon code and the link are in my sig. Go wild!

10th anniversary of Ninja Scroll will be out at the end of the month and it's released by another company, so i'd hold off on purchasing the original Manga ninja scroll dvd

Actually, it's being published by Manga and is eligible for the sale.

I can't recommend anyone buy the Manga DVD version of Honnemaise. Check out that link for all the gory details on the hack job they did to the DVD. If all you want is to see the movie, I guess it's OK, but I, personally, don't want an extremely flawed release of anything, let alone a great film like this.

Black Magic M-66 is sorta... pooh. It's... OK, but not great.

Cagliostro is a great Lupin (Rupan, or Lupan or however you want to say it) movie. Studio Ghibli did a great job on it.

Kai Doh Maru is OK as well. Done by the Blood the Last Vampire group. It's short. It has some crappy "hey, that's obviously 3D cg" parts in it though.

Macross movies/OVA are excellent also. It's a Macross Anime, how could it be bad? :D

Shadow Skill is OK.

Read or Die was pretty cool. It's also interesting to note that the TV series of this was picked up by another company (name escapes me for now) and the name may end up changing. Not sure why though.

Rayearth was odd, as it's Magic Knight Rayearth... in alternate form. Animation was OK and everything, it just didn't d omuch for me as I'm not a fan of them creating an "alternate" version of a good show,

Anyway, I think I'm skipping this sale. Manga is a shitty company for the most part with very few GOOD releases under their belt. And the ones they do release end up being fucked up.

Well, I only picked up the End of Evangelion and second Patlabor movie. Decided not to pick up Death and Rebirth, since its pretty much a waste if you've got the series and the End. Already have the both Ninja Scroll and the third Patlabor movie from a previous sale, and don't like the first Patlabor movie. Also Decided not to pick up Ghost in the Shell, or Black Magic M-66 since I already have them on VHS, and can't really afford to shell out for things I technically already have. slerch is right, Manga really isn't a very good company these days, there's hardly anything. BTW, thanks for the heads up on the bad quality of the R1 wings of Honneamise release. This sale pales in comparison to the others they've had recently. thanks for the link anyway Nick.

No problem on the heads up. Always glad to steer people away from flaming turds.

Anyway, I did buy Guyver 1 and 2, just for the hell of it.

I also picked up an awesome deal on Devil Lady in the weekly specials section. $70 for all 6 Devil Lady DVDs? I didn't buy it before 'cause I was being cheap, now there is no excuse!

And you'll be glad to know, Nick, that I used your link for my purchases! :D I'll help you fund your cell buying :D

And as far as the company "Manga" goes, it's my understanding that they floundered, lost lots of money and another company came in and bought their shitty asses up. I guess it's hard to make money when you spend out the ass to get End of Eva/Rebirth (lincensing fee on this one was so high that ADV balked at the price and left it on the table) and then have to get all the ENG va's to come back, when some of them aren't even in the industry anymore. THEN you release a disc that doesn't work on everyone's player and have to do a recall...

Now if only they'd release Giant Robo on DVD... assuming they give us a QUALITY release, unlike their Wings DVD.

Saved me some money... I had heard Honnemaise was really good - didn't realize there were issues with the Manga release.

I'd agree with your opinion on Manga as a whole, but there's a few titles that everyone has to have.

I got into an argument with someone on the board about Honnemaise. They got mad at me for steering people clear of the Manga release because "it's still a great movie." Yes, Honnemaise IS a great movie. Unfortunately, if you want quality, the Manga release is NOT the way to go. And unfortunately there doesn't seem to be another subbed version available, and if there is, it's a bootleg.

I also rebought the Ninja Scroll 10th Ann. I had already preordered it through Rightstuff, but I wanted my discount dammit! :D So I canceled my other order.
