anyone recall that uber-early 90's board game "HEROQUEST?"

Man that was the good shit.

I was about 10 or so when my best friend bought it, and I remember him hauling the bulky game to my house on occasion. It was a fun-as-hell game with interesting play technique that at that time I never saw yet.

Most of my friends got into it, and heh, I even remember the questionaire thing that came with the box, and they asked you what suggestions you have so the makers could make a future installment even better.

I remember my friend wrote something like "Use smaller doors."

Great times...

I think on eBay these days HQ commands plenty of Benjamins...

They're actually worth something?! Man...I still have all of my box sets. They're pretty worn-out because of over-use...I think the boxes are duct-taped together at the corners.

I remember losing entire weekends to the game without sleep or eating...ahh, the starving of adolescent gamers with cardboard and plastic...

I think so. I haven't checked in eons though. I just remember when I finally wanted to buy one for my own, circa January 95 (I remember cuz my brother would not take me til he watch the 49ers win the 95 SuperBowl, which they did... it was the one where Steve Young ran over that poor media dude in his way haha)

Anyway, Jan. 95 we went to hella places and they were all out... cuz HQ was out of circulation by then, easily. And today, I assume they're pretty hard to find.

I think when I searched some odd 2 years ago on eBay, they went in the 30's or so...

Wow, I sure do remember this game. In fact I've got a very nice condition, complete game in my closet here. Got one of the first expansions too. Great game though, good times.

was this the game with the warphole things?

I think that was another game...Dark Dungeons, I think...something like that. My friend had that one.

In addition to almost any other game out there...like Battle Lords or something like that...it had this big yard squared plastic play mat, and there were plastic units and a tower and a cannon and an ogre and a whole bunch of other things...

...damn. He had all the cool toys...

HeroQuest was the shit - I've still got my boxed set under my bed, but I haven't played it in years. I liked how accessible and simplistic it was compared to something like D&D. My younger brother and I had a lot of fun playing that and making our own, original quests.

One-time, I even used Wad Author of whatever to make the board in 3D using the Heretic Doom engine so I could play Hero Quest in real-time 3D :)

I played this as well. It was a nice, easy sub for D&D which we sometimes got burned out on. They made little expansion adventures too, which were remarkably creative. I even went so far as to paint my little plastic figures, and import my other pewter minis as new character classes.

I think my HQ stuff is still up in my mom's attic somewhere, I should dig it out one of these days for the hell of it.

Yeah I played that when I was 13 or so. My brother and I painted and detailed all of the miniatures. We had the expansions too. It was a fun game. I think we gave it away though sometime in the late 90's to a friend.

You know the creator of heroquest just ate mashed potato, then went insane and committed suicide?

Great game though, I wonder what I did with mine.

...umm...I thought about maybe digging mine out and giving it a few games for old times sake, but now I don't know if I want to do that...

Just sitting there? For no reason? That's pretty random...
