I just received Mars Matrix, Giga Wing 2, and Cannon Spike. These games are pretty fun. I especially like Mars Matrix. Well, I bought Cannon Spike when it first came out, but since then I sold it and now have it again. I wish I got into shooters a lot sooner; this is my 5th Dreamcast system. Strikers 1945 Plus got me hooked. This last Dreamcast system I bought is a modded Sports edition, so it's the best one I've owned so far. Anyway, I have some questions since I'm somewhat new to Dreamcast shooters.

Is Gun Bird 2 and Zero Gunner 2 any good?
Is BANGAI-O any good?
Is Zero Gunner 2 similar to Cannon Spike?
What other Dreamcast shooters are out there?
Is Mars Matrix a 16-bit game?

Thanks!

First off, welcom back:cool:

GunBird 2 is not near as good as the first one. The game is short and the levels are pretty uninspired, you could do better.

ZeroGunner 2, I have not played

Bangai-O is freaking excellent!! Treasure will never steer you wrong in the shump department. Classic 2d mech shooting action, I wish the Macross games were as good as this little gem:cool:

That's all I can answer for you, hope it helps:)

I absolutly love the dreamcast and its shooters, ive never played zero gunner, but i do own gunbird 2 and bangai-o, they are both great, if you love treasure than youll love bangai-o, its quite original, also gunbird 2 is great if you like cartoony type shooters. I recomend them. Judgeing what people pay for zero gunner id say its probably good too.

Thanks! I really missed the good ol' Dreamcast. Yeah, ever since I bought my Strikers 1945 Plus, I can't get enough 2d shooting action. I remembered Dreamcast has some great classics. I'm very interested in Zero Gunner 2; it almost seems to be like a Cannon Spike type of game. Yeah I would like to get Bangai-O sometime in the future as well. Bangai-O is a side shooter, right? So what other Dreamcast shooters are out there?

I found Gunbird 2 at FYE used for 5 bucks. It's better then the arcade verson because Capcom added 2 extra characters. One is Morgan from DarkStalkers. If you have a PS1 get Mobile Light Force 1. Thats GunBird1. But it sucks because they took all the story out of the game so it's a crappy port.

Bangai-O is awesome. I picked it up because I saw it said TREASURE on it. Good thing I did. It's so much fun. I had a blast with the game. It's weird if you see pictures or videos of it but once you play it you'll love it.

I can't get over how fun Mars Matrix is. I am kind of disappointed that I didn't buy it from Capcom when they were selling them brand new for $20. I bought mine brand new for $30. I haven't played Giga Wing 2 enough to know what it's like (just received them both today). I bought Giga Wing 2 brand new for $15.

I am defiantly going to get Bangai-O sometime soon. Are there any other Treasure shooters for the Dreamcast, besides Ikaruga? Anyone have some kind of DC shooter list?

Is Zero Gunner similar to Cannon Spike?

THanks!

Zero Gunner 2 is awesome.

A definite must-have for shooter fans.

I don't think there are any similarities between ZG2 and Cannon Spike, with the exception of both games being shooters.

In ZG2,you're piloting a heavily-armed attack helicopter. The gameplay is pretty much standard Psikyo fair, shoot, shoot, and shoot some more!

Unbelieveable graphics and surprisingly tight heli control, this game rocks.

If you're a Psikyo fan, you'll simply love Zero Gunner 2. I'd have to say it's one of my favorite shmups on DC along with Ikaruga, hands down.

Some people complain about the controls, but give them a chance, you'll get used to them and they'll eventually just become second nature. You basically pilot one of three helicopters which each have certain strengths. The stages scroll horizontally, vertically, and diagnoly, changing throughout the stage. You can spin your chopper 360 in either direction. The way this is done is what some people complain about. You'll see once you play it. But just pick it up, it's excellent.

Very well said and I agree 100% with your statement, and with B.I.GPSYCHE's comments. The control can take a bit of getting used to, but as you say, it becomes second nature after a while and isn't a problem at all. Graphics are fantastic and we are very lucky this game came out on the DC! :)

Please please, get Ikaruga. It's perhaps the finest shooter for the DC. And can be obtained for $20-$25 on the GC as well.

Zero Gunner 2 is an excellent shooter as well, very good control and difficult to boot. Unfortunately, the music isn't very good.

Rez is an excellent shooter. A wonderful blend of Tron and Panzer Dragoon probably best describes the atmosphere and gameplay.

Yes, if you own a DC, and love shooters, you simply must track down a copy of Ikaruga.

Don't forget Border Down for DC.

It just got released and shipped yesterday, and I should have it from NCS later today :)

If you really like all of those 2D shooters you really should get a Saturn. There's a lot of good import 2D shooters for it.
More than the Dreamcast has for sure.

Thanks for the input. I am defiantly getting Zero Gunner 2 and BANGAI-O. Ikaruga is awesome, the GC lucked out on that one. Buying another Sega Saturn sounds tempting but I don't have any more room for a 6th video game system. I guess I'll just have to be happy with what the Dreamcast has to offer.

Ok, so far there is:

BANGAI-O
Border Down
Cannon Spike
Giga Wing 1
Giga Wing 2
Gun bird 2
Ikaruga
Mars Matrix
Rez
Zero Gunner 2

So is this it then?

Thanks!

Well, welcome to the wonderful world of shmups. Come on over to shmups.com and hit the forums for more opinions, but I dont think that there is a bad shmup on the DC.

If you like S45+ You will probably like GunBird2. Marz Matrix is CPS2, so is Giga wing.

No Zero Gunner2 is not.

I picked up Bangai-O at EB for $8 because I had heard about it. I'm no shooter fan but I do like an occasional shooter every once in a while. Anyway, can anybody explain Bangai to me? I just don't understand this game. The game I got only came with the front page and everything else was gone. I tried it for a while but it's been collecting dust since.

Cannon Spike, well..........i think its crap.

Decent at best.

Ikaruga sure is great, shame there are only maybe 6 good shooters on the DC:annoyed:

While Mars Matrix is kind of on the short side, it's the combo scoring system and all the unlockables that keep you coming back for more.

I actually really like Giga Wing (The first one)- it's kind of oldschool, but I like it better than Mars Matrix for some reason- and the bosses are good, especially the giant robot one. It gets absolutley rediculous on the last 2 levels though.

Twinkle Star Sprites is also top notch and has no slowdown.

ZG2 is very good and has those great mech bosses.

But overall, the DC has nothing on the Saturn shooter-wise.

I have 5 systems. I was referring to my AES system.

I finally seen a Sega Saturn Shmups list and wow there is allot more than Dreamcast. Maybe I'll have to make room for another SS. Maybe one day I'll get one.

It sounds to me that Giga Wing 1 is pretty good. They're pretty inexpensive too.
