In all honesty, no matter how much i love beat em ups, i have always favoured alot of the platform games on the megdrive/genesis, games such as james pond 2, castle of illusion and so on.... gave me hours of joy

My two all time favs that i would never ever get bored of though have to be

1 sonic the hedgehog
2 quackshot

Even today i am still amazed at how realistic the water looks in sonic the hedgehog, ##

Is there any other platform lovers here and what are your choices ?

I actually played Quackshot for the first time ever last week. I was really impressed! It was a lot of fun!

As much as I love the Sonic series, my vote for best platformer would probably have to go to Super Mario World. Mario 3 is excellent as well.

Tie between Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island.

What happened with Sunshine though? Mario 64 was a real 3d Mario, and it was incredible. Sunshine on the other hand.. :annoyed:

I've always sort of thought of Super Mario World as the true 'I can always go back to it' classic.

But there's alot of great platformers that I still play:

Crash Bandicoot 1 PS
Donkey Kong Country 2 SNES
Pandemonium PS
Bionic Commando NES
Super Mario Bros. NES
GI Joe NES
Clockwork Knight 1 + 2

I think the classic action/platform game is one of the most fun and purest forms of gaming there is.

I mean, people of my generation were raised on them.

Yes, SMB3 is freakin' awesome, but my vote goes to....

<drumroll>
Mega Man 2
</drumroll>

I love the music. I love the graphics. I love the gameplay. I love the password system. I love the way Mega Man blinks. Freakin' sick.

Of course, Bonk's Revenge for the Turbo is a super close second overall

Super Mario World is most excellent, definitely deserves to be in one of the top platformer spots.

Too many to list, but here are the top five (IMHO, of course!)

1. Super Mario World - SNES
2. Bionic Commando - NES
3. Shinobi series - Genesis
4. Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu - PCEngine/TG16
5. Sonic 2 - Genesis

I'm torn between Super Mario 3, Super Mario World, and Mario 64.

All great games that withstand the test of time (even Mario 64's block graphics are still passable.)

Actually, if we're counting the Castleevania games, I guess SC4 and C3, C:SOTN and Aria should go right near the top of my list.

Gotta say that for me Mario World has still never been beat.
Reminds me exactly why I still love Nintendo even though they seem destined to make the same mistakes (and more) that Sega already have. Also noteable IMO:

Yossy Island
Goeman Warrior 2
Sonic 1

and anyone remember Plok from the SNES? An under-reated gem. fantastic graphics, loads of levels, ad the funniest music ever.
