Here's a link to a really cool piece at insertcredit.com about the making of Street Fighter II. I'd seen a few of these drawings in an old ass issue of EGM, but seeing all of these drawings just amazes me...how something that became so insanely huge had such humble beginnings. Fun read.

Thanks for the link Loopz, great read. Its amazing to think that from those rough sketches came the game that would define the fighting genre for a decade. Capcom should go back and refine some of the unused characters and put out a whole new 2D fighting franchise.

Interesting. The disparity between the artwork is amazing, it almost feels as though the game became what it was after whomever did the original SF2 art signed on.

btw im glad they put in average guile for us americans to use. i would have totally ignored the game if his ass wasnt in it. and yeah, he was the first character i used when my school discovered sf2. i later switched over to the other american, ken. u think i'm gonna use some damn japanese char? fuck that.

I think that Chun-Li with a jacket would be cool as an alternate costume, also that police officer would have fit in the Alpha series, but I believe they should have left Gen in the game, he looks like he could kick some ass with that stick.

Anyone know where to find SNK concept art?

That alternate Vega (M.Bison) with the iron mask is awesome. Too bad the design didn't make the final cut.

'Dick Jumpsey' is also an awesome name. As soon as I read it, I immediately thought of Dudley.

On the last page? I believe that's supposed to be Balrog (Vega) [spanish ninja].

No, beside that is Vega (M.Bison) with the same iron mask as Balrog (Vega).

To be honest, I think it suits Vega more.

I've seen that medievel balrog before, I'd have liked him in, are all these diagrams for sf2 ww? as I see the char select pics on one screen being very close to ssf2x ones, and also theres a cave stage that looks just like oro's in sfIII

Dick Jumpsey - Best name ever?

At least that explains how fight fever came about. Someone stole those early sketches from capcom and thought they were genious.

Wow, some information that I did not know about. Thans for the good read. I'm with the author I love Zangif's old name just like in punch out Vodka Drunkinsky instead of Sodapopinsky or however you spell it.

LOL! I love the Hokuto no Ken generic guy!

On a side note. Is Ken Japanese or Half-American-Japanese?

I always thought he was from the US because he is a white dude and kind of lives here and his map location is USA on SFII.

Blonde japanese guy? Bullshit.

Ken is 1/4 American and 3/4 Japanese. He also dyes his hair blonde. If you notice, his eyebrows are brown.

Where does it say this? I always thought his eye brows were black because they knew he'd look gay with blond eye brows.

I'm not able to find any text on that page to indicate that the sword-wielding masked character is supposed to be Vega (M. Bison) [Shadoloo leader] -- where are you seeing this?

There is a Street Fighter plot FAQ somewhere on GameFAQs that goes into great detail about the plot, as well as miscellaneous details such as Ken dying his hair. The information was mostly taken/translated from the All About Capcom book. I'll try hunting down the link, it really is an interesting read.

I hope you find that link about the plot, man. But you could obviously see from the very beginning that Guile was made for americans. I mean look at the two GIANT amercian flags he has on his two arms. Still a cool character, though.

BULLSHIT!

Ken is a blonde haired blued eyed ALL AMERICAN! he has a hot blonde slut wife and he lives in san francisco. a lot of blondes have dark brown eyebrows. blonde eyebrows look wierd.

btw guile only has the tat on one arm. sprites are just mirror images when they turn around in game so u see the tat on both arms.

Took some digging, but I found it. You'll have to copy and paste the URL into your browser.
