I did post this in the Tech Forum, but of the 10 posts 6 are mine, and I got a pointer or two, but nothing one could call an answer: I am hoping the people whom currently own Metal Slug 4 can help out. ;-) Sorry for double posting, but a change of venue seems the only way to maybe get a bit io help.
Regardingthe copy I own:
The sounds in parts with a lot of bass is pretty static filled at times, but the rest of the time the music is 100% fine. The best example is the music in level 3. If I pause it and listen, the first 60-75 seconds have parts on and off (usually in bassy parts) where it sounds quite fuzzy or even a bit distorted. Now it's not a high pitch sound, but rather a low sound that is kind of hard to hear (I play guitar so I pick out sounds prettywell). My brother did not hear it until I paused the level and he then listened to is for a second himself (pausing meant no other sounds). He did agree with me.
Now here's what I did to try and make sure everything was working right:
#1. Cleaned the car 3 times with qtips and cleaning fluid. After wiping the down I inspected the pins for dust and found none. I then blew the contacts with canned air to be 100% sure and let the cart dry for 15 minutes. The pins shine like mirrors.
#2. Cleaned BOTH (I tested it with 2 neos) of my Neos, let the Neo dry for 15 minutes, then blew the slots with canned air.
#3. Unhooked my Bose system and ran the SNK made AV able to the television.
Fired it up and loaded the third level and hit pause to listen to the tunes(since it's the best to hear the static on) and I STILL got the fuzzy sound on both Neos. I point this out because when I first heard the sound the Bose system was being used NOT the TV. Once the TV was used the bose wa not, so it's not a siituation of ebing able to blame the Bose.
To be clear I own 50 other games and this is the only one that does this.
Then I put everything back like it was (running into the Bose) and the same thing still happened as before.
Now here's what I noticed:
#1. It was less noticable with TV than the Bose, but this is to be expected as the Bose is a nice system system to make sounds (flaws and all) jump out at you more, but it was there.
#2. The static was only there when certain part of certain tunes were played.
#3. The static was also hearable thru the headphone jack, though again not as noticeble as with the Bose, but still there.
So this leads me to think one of two things:
#1. The sound is poorly programmed and staticy in some placed.
#2. The cart has a bad ROM chip and sounds on that chip are bad.
I find both hard to believe, as i have NEVER seen a bad Neo game (and I have owned over 200), and I find it hard to think that SNK would leave crappy static in their games's sound since they never have before. However looking at the trouble shooting I did and the fact that other games play 100% fine, I can only conclude one of the above it right.
The question I have is this:
Does anyone else notice what I have described above?
I'd REALLY REALLY appreciate it if anyone whom owne the game could pop it in and listen to the third levels music and let me know if it's my copy or just a MS4 thing... thanx!!
