Are PS1 Controllers compatible with the PS2?

yeah as the topic says. I know PS1 games work on the PS2, but not sure about the controllers and would really like to know.

Yeah, I use my PSOne controllers with my PS2, they work.

yes, all the ones that I've used. I've used many to make joysticks for the system and all of them worked flawlessly (until I messed them up of corse)

They work very well with the PS2.
But certain PS2 games require you to use the dualshock 2 only.It will ask you to connect a dualshock 2.I have experienced that for certain games such as The getaway(PAL, dunno about NTSC though) and Silent hill 2.

If the game uses analog BUTTONS [x, square, circle, etc] then the controller won't function. For example, Gran Turismo's use of the X button is analog...the harder you press it, the more gas you give your car. Old PS1 dualshocks did not have this capability...so in turn, those controllers won't work with some more 'advanced' games.

My ps1 controller works on gran turismo.
