*Since I caught shit for my Noir post, this posting is **SPOILER FREE** for the most part, no main plot points are given

**PLUS I'm NOT talking about the movie, though it was decent none-the-less**

This is one GREAT Anime series. It's got everything you could be looking for: great story, great characters/character designs, great animation, great music and great voice acting (in Japanese at least, can't say I like the dub myself, but to each their own).

It also happens to be super depressing and not very happy over all. I find this kinda odd for CLAMP, since they've released things like Angelic Layer and Magic Knight Rayearth (which aren't all happy happy, but dammit, NONE of those series kick you in the balls like X will).

The first time I saw the animation, I was floored. I couldn't believe how GOOD it looked! It seemed close to theatrical quality and you can tell they spent a lot of time getting it just right. Justifiable time and expense for such an amazing story, IMO.

Aya Hisakawa does the voice of Hinoto (Dragon's of Heaven's Dream Seer). And she happens to be ONE of my favorite VAs. I've seen Inoue Kikuko (Belldandy) listed as being a voice on eps 5, but I haven't gone back to listen for her just yet. I'm waiting for the series to be out totally before rewatching it.

Before Now Loading mentions it, Kuwashima Houko does the voice of Yatouji Satsuki (happens to be his favorite VA :D ) (sorry Now Loading, just wanted to get one up on ya! :D )

This is also an odd show because by the end of the series, not many people are needed to animate the main characters, if you catch my drift.

I like the big drama between Fuma and Kamui, the scene right after Kamui decides which side he's joining. That hits you in all the wrong spots.

My personal favorite characters are Karen (babe!), Arashi and Kanoe.

Beast is, well, what can be said for a giant computer with 666 painted on it? :D Beast happens to be th only character I question, though he/it has it's own special part to play, which we get to see in disc 7.

There are 2 things I'm disappointed in with this show.

1) The amount of time it's taken for the entire series to be released on R1 DVD. Started September 24th, 2002 and as of tomorrow disc 7 will be released (got mine today. DVD Planet is still good for something at least)

2) The amount of discs this one is. 8 discs for 24 episodes (25 if you count episode 0 that's on disc 1). Seems a bit like over kill. Though I know why they did this (they need to make money on the show so they can afford to buy more shows. This happens to be one of Pioneers more expensive aquisitions, BTW), I still don't like it. I wish they would have put it all out at once, instead of torturing me with one release every 2 months.

Anyone who watches this and doesn't feel depressed to some degree is either dead or an uncaring bastard. I believe this was the Anime described as being able to make a hard ass truck driver cry.

Overall I feel this is a much more enjoyable experience than the compressed and cut up theatrical movie they did in... '99? Though the theatrical version was good, it has nothing on the TV series, IMO.

So does anyone else like this series? What don't you like? Favorite characters? Stories to share?

Keep it spoiler free, though if you've seen the movie, you know basically how it's going to end up (I haven't seen the last 4 episodes, but I know how it ends)... :D

I loved the X film, even though it wasn't perfect.

I need to check this series out sometime soon.

I've got the movie, but it's one of the worst anime's I own. I might check out the series and see what it's all about/

Well... if you dislike it that much... I'll warn you that the series is, for all intents and purposes, the same basic story as the movie. The only reason I didn't like the movie was the same reason I didn't love the Escaflowne movie (the Esca movie was good, but...), that being because they time compressed it so much they took a huge, great story and slapped it into 90 minutes. It went from being an amazing story to an OK one.

Our changing tastes continue...I just sold off Vol. 1-4 (w/slipcase on ebay). If anyone got their Vol. 5 w/o slipcase there's an address to send to for a free slipcase for Vol. 5. Found out at the AoD forums from a Pioneer rep. I dunno, the series just completely bored me. I heard 5 & 6 get really depressing.

Nice story and premise... But I thought there would be more to the ending... :emb:

I hated the movie, it was basically a 'Lets take a cast of 12 (ish - I forget the exact number) and kill everyone off untill we get down to the main good and bad guy'.

If the series is like that only longer, I dont think I want to watch it.

That's basically what it is. Only problem is that they flesh out the characters a lot better and make you like them, only to kick you when you get to liking them.

Didn't realize so many people didn't like this series...

I knew she was in the series, but I've never seen it. From what I've heard about it, I don't really want to, but I will anyway. Hey, the same thing happened with Blue Gender, and I actually LIKED it.

No, this series has a huge fanbase. Personally, it's way overrated, but then again I'm off and on with Clamp. They're titles are usually Shoujo with a few exceptions, both their audiences are always both male and female, so you can understandably see why so many people of both sexes dislike and like any Clamp show. X is just so incredibly boring I couldn't stand it. The cover art is just breathtaking, though, and the slipcases are uber-cool as was the Character Guide in the first volume.

I personally enjoy all of Clamp's stuff, but I can see why people may dislike it.

Let me rephrase what I said "I can't believe a lot people on the Neo boards dislike X."

Personally I think it's tragic yet really cool. But that's just me. If everyone liked or hated the same things, the world would be pretty damn boring.

I loved X TV but I can't say the same about X/1999. The manga was awesome!! The conflict between the Dragons of Heaven and Dragons of Earth was really interersting to see!! :D

Wow... this one resurfaced with no warning what so ever! :D

Anyway, I saw the complete X TV series and I must say I prefer the TV ending to the "movie" ending. They really know how to depress the hell out of people...

I liked X...the manga, movie, and t.v. series. One beef i had with the t.v. series though was that i felt it reduced the violence level quite a bit. Not to say that all the blood and guts make or break an anime...but i felt that the violence was one aspect of the manga and movie that was left out of the tv series.

Has to do with the time of day it was shown as well. Contrary to what some believe, Japanese TV won't show the super violent stuff during the day or prim time, but they have no problem airing it on off hours. An example of this would be Berserk. It's got blood, it's got violence and it's got rape. This was aired on TV, yes, but at like 1 or 2 in the morning.

My guess is they toned down the blood/violence to keep the show on at a time where people would actually WATCH it, instead of early morning.
