I just played through y's book 1 and 2 again on my tg16, and was wondering if there is any other games for the series and for what systems. This is like one of my fav rpgs of all time.

Here's what I remember:

Ys 1 = Sega Master System, and some type of Japanese computer
Ys 1&2 = TG/16 CD
Ys 3 = TG16, Genesis, SNES, Famicom
Ys 4 = Super Famicom

I believe there were additional games released on Japanese PC, but I kind of lost track after Ys4 become a Super Famicom exclusive. Also, the Japanese Saturn had some kind of Falcom collection disc that contained some of the older Ys games.

Ys I and Ys IV are both available for the PC Engine.

By the way, if you haven't played it yet, get Cosmic Fantasy 2 for the Turbo CD!

1&2 has one of the best RPG soundtracks evar. :buttrock:

I've never been able to find the actual game OST on CD anywhere though, just remixes, orchestrations, etc.

Just to add to what others said, while Ys IV is available on the PCE, it's actually different from the Super Famicom version. Buy both!

Also there's Ys V: Ushinawareta suna no miyako Kefin on the Super Famicom, as well as the Expert version. All the old games have been remade for Windows as far as I know. 1/2 got remade as Ys Eternal, I think, but maybe someone with more knowledge of the PC games will post this info.

some people over look this game.
but 1&2 is prolly in the top 20 of all time....

3 is not worth it , but 4 redeemed itself somewhat..

after 3 none were in English as i remember,,,

Y''s complete is worth the buy even if you can understand a lick of jap.

The one thing that ALWAYS bothered me about the PCE/TG16 version of YS3 (wanderers from Ys) was the horrendously CHOPPY parallax background scrolling!

What happened there? Was it a CDROM memory limitation or just bad programming?

I'm in the middle of playing The Legend of Zanadu 2 right now. You should check it out it is alot like Ys with better graphics. It has the same great run into the enemy fighting!

I've always been fond of the SNES version myself; there's actually some fairly decent music in Ys III.

Was that for the Turbo CD or was it a HU Card. I thought it was a cd and I love Y's been wanting to play it again and almost pulled out my SMS version. But I'd rather the game look nice.
I even used to have a PC version of the game back on my IBM those VGA graphics rocked:buttrock:

The music is even better on the Turbo CD version (amazing, really), but it's sooooo choppy! To the point of being uplayable, really - the SNES version IS the way to go.

So true! I got this game around the time it came out...and was simply blown away by the music!

Book I & II for TG16-CD is the one to get.

Ys 4 was on Turbo Duo/PC Engine also

Ys 5 was Super Famicom only and didnt recieve favorable reviews at all.

Ys 3 had better music and cinemas on the PC Engine but the SNES one played better.

Ys 4 was hard. I had it on my Duo and with my limited Japanese reading it took me almost a year to beat that game.

Ys V: Ushinawareta suna no miyako Kefin was pretty good, I thought. Sure, it's short and relatively easy to get through, but the atmosphere is spot on and both the graphics and music are quite good. Course, the music is SFC, so it's not going to hold a candle to 1/2 on PCECD. Still, more people should have given Ys V a chance - it really isn't a bad game, though if I'd gotten it when it first came out, I might have been pissed off paying 9800Y for it, considering the length. It's no 1/2 (or SCD IV, for that matter), but it sure blows III out of the water, and isn't a bad game in its own right.
