Hi I just got a working pc engine...What wires can I use to hook it up? I am trying to use my turbografx rf which seems to fit, but the ac adaptors dont seem to fit or work..I have all the systems, so if you guys could say, use genesis or snes I can..I have the specs from another board member but anything else would help. ThankS!

Here's a link to all AC Adapters for the various flavors of PC Engine. Other resources at this site include controllers and AV cables. GREAT site.

PC Engine and related AC adapters

The PC Engine adapter is a 9V 650 mA DC adapter which it sounds like you already know. I'll check the connector when I get home tonight to see which others fit. You can always bring it to Radio Shack and find the proper fitting plug and buy a generic adapter. BUT REMEMBER: check the PC Engine near the plug inlet to see if the center pole is negative or positive!! That's pretty important!

Not sure if this helps, but in the UK , the jap PC Engine uses standard uk Megadrive.SMS or Snes PSU's, norm 9v adaptors.

hmm...I dont think so

PCE anyway use DC 9V at 1000mA
Make sure, if u buy a power supply, voltage the same and Ampere equal or more

plus....PCE is one of the few console using + inside and
- outside

however you should check polarity on the back of your console just to be sure 100%

Thanks for the info..But I just know how to play games, not anything else about voltage and stuff. So my neo power supply should do the trick?

Audio/video (composite) is a standard that works well with any system regardless of origin. RF is a totally different story as US and Japanese TV's use a different RF frequency.

Don't listen to the people that tell you to use a NES RF, they obviously haven't tried. It won't work...I can tell you from first hand experience it doesn't work well. You MAY be able to get a fuzzy, black and white image on channel 8 or 9 using a US NES or "Universal" RF adapter, or you may not get anything. Trust me on this, I was in the same dilemma when I bought my PC Engine, prompting me to seek out the A/V BOOSTER adapter in order to play the thing on my TV. I used the included RF adapter that came with the PC Engine, a NES one, and then one of those Universal adapters and none worked.

Yes, that was the only way that I could get my PCE to work on any US TV, short of doing a mod on the unit. Keep in mind that the A/V BOOSTER is an official NEC product that interfaces using the expansion bus on the back of the system...you cannot buy them at any Radio Shack and you cannot use the U.S. Turbografx version either.
I can send you a pic of what it looks like. Keep in mind that the A/V Booster is not exactly the easiest item to find for a PC Engine. THe other alternative is to get the CD ROM as that has the A/V ports built-in.

As for a NES adapter, I can't answer that for sure. Look at the pic of the PC Engine adapter I sent you and BE ABSOLUTELY certain that the voltage data is the same. Since I don't have a NES adapter on hand, I can't really verify it so you're on your own in that respect.

If you can't find an AVBooster or CDROM unit, keep in mind that my PCEngine bundle (that I've been trying to sell for several weeks already) includes it.

I really can't sell it to you separately since then my PCE would be of no use without it.
