A Neo Geo dilemma...

OK, I just bought and received a BRAND NEW/SEALED us copy of Top Player's Golf.

I'm torn between opening and playing it or leaving it sealed and intact. If I were to open it, that's one less remaining classic Neo game from the early 1990's that is sealed and untainted. Remember, there's a finite supply of these games!

On the other hand, I could break the seal, read the manual and play the game. Then I'd add it to my collection shelf where it will then become another Neo game in my collection.

I'd like some advice from the Ng.com members as to what would be the best course of action.

Let me just clarify that I'm not trying to fuel another "collector" vs. "gamer" debate.

I just want to see what the majority thinks is the best course of action.

well, it depends what you bought the game for. are you planning on selling it down the road? in that case i would not open it. i have had the same dilemma with turbo duo games (dracula x, dungeon explorer 2), but i don't plan on selling off my collection at any point, so i play them. even if it's opened, it will retain some value to a collector.

I wouldn't bother playing TPG to begin with, so you might as well leave it sealed.

That's covered as I have an MVS version of the game.
I guess part of me wants new/untainted games so that I could amass a permanent/museum-like collection of AES games, but then part of me is a gamer as well. Ah...this is such a difficult decision...

I guess that reading this you guys think that I'm mainly a collector, but that is not true. I guess every Neo gamer has a small part of them that longs to have a perfect sealed copy in their AES library. There's something about seeing a sealed game that makes me throw all that "I'm a gamer first" instinct right out the window.

Then what's the problem? You don't want to open a new game, you can play the game for MVS. There isn't a problem is there? You just wanted to show off the fact that you got a new TPG. :annoyed:

:spock:

Are you sure it's "brand new" just 'cause it has the sealing sticker?

You'd inspect if the cart has insertion marks on it.

But once opened, it's not "brand new" anymore.

So just play it. Games are made to be played after all

If you have an MVS version of the game, and you bought this unopened, then I'd say you are a collector to an extent. If this is the case, fuck it, you have a copy to play (MVS) and go play that. Leave the unopened copy for when you run out of cash and need quick money. Then leave deciding on opening it or not to the next jackass to buy the game, right? Makes sense to me anyway.

Open it.

Look at this way: Wouldn't you rather know you were the first person to open the game and play it? That sounds a lot better then knowing no one will ever get to play it because it is sitting sealed on your shelf.

Its kinda like nailing virgins I suppose. You know you're the first to violate it. Anyone else who touches it will be enoying your sloppy seconds.

Play it. That's what its for.

That's why I bought ROTD homecart, and dammit, I put those insertion marks on the cart, because its my game and I'm proud to say that I'm gonna play it!

Am I crazy? Probably, if I'm buying homecarts just to play them. But then again, you have to be a little nuts to get into this hobby to begin with.

Play it!!

I went ahead and opened the game. The temptation was just too much.

I am glad I did though! There's nothing like opening a new Neo AES cart and being the first to enjoy the wonderful new cart smell! Great stuff!

Good game and yes, everything inside was new with no signs of mandhandling!

Man, you should have resisted since you own the MVS copy. But, then again, I know how hard it is to resist opening a new Neo game sometimes.
