I used to love this game thought it was the shit. I have never beaten it before since last night that is. But to do it I cheated and used a game enhancer.
I don't think it's even possable to beat this game with out one. I must have died around 90 times before finally beating the damn game. When they only give you 3 continues its almost as bad as trying to get through Metal Slug on the AES.
Anyone out there ever beat this game without cheating?

But Metal Slug 1 is really, really easy.

I was able to beat MS1 on MVS with 3 continues when I trained on it. Concerning Battletoads and double dragon, I can't give a judgement because I have never played the game.

It's no secret that the Battletoads games were some of the hardest action titles ever. BT and DD was no exception, and to this day I've never been able to finish it.
Never got around to getting the Gameshark, so it remains as one of the unfinished games in my collection.

there was a way actually, although I never played it long enough. On the second stage where you're going down on those ropes (before the speeder bike stage) if you get one of those beaks from those birds and manage to keep juggling one of them the points will eventually turn to 1Ups. You can get a good amout of lives doing that but I don't know about 90. Now that I think about it, I don't know if this trick works on BT and DD. I've seen it work on the nes version...been a while.. so it' may have been on the SNES version...

Either way, that game was EXTREMELY hard.

BT & DD was a pussy game, compared to the original Battletoads.

Just out of curiosity, what version of BT/DD were you playing? I have it on the NES and it was.... pretty easy. Or at least, not difficult enough to warrant a game enhancer. I COULD be blowing smoke, as it's been a long time since I played it, but I seem to remember it not being that difficult. The best part was the space ship section with controls like Solar Jetman!

I love those scooter/rocket sections in the Battletoads games. Not to gloat, but I've always been able to beat 'em easily. For me, it's funny as hell watching my pals struggle with that stage. Especially on two-player. Where one guy crashing makes both of them restart the level.

Anyways the game is full of cheap hits and that's what makes it hard to beat. Or at least that's what I remember pissing me off about the game. I could only beat it with an in-game cheat code, but you get an ending where they tell you you're a cheater and to start over without cheating. Or something along those lines.
It's been a while since I've played it on the genesis or snes.

Playing it on the Genesis... as far as the original Battle Toads I could get up to the last level before loosing where on BT&DD without a game enhacer I can only get to stage 4-1 or 4-2 fricken hard game.

Actually, BT/DD is a walk in the park, when compared to Battletoads and Battletoads in Battlemaniacs for NES and SNES.

The og battletoads is indeed a ballbreaker though, but beatable.

Actually I think Battle Maniacs on the SNES is easier than BT DD. I don't know about it being easier than the original though.

Now that's something I could've done without...a thread to remind me of all the wasted time I spent trying to beat those ridiculous Battletoad games.

Definitely not one of my fonder gaming memories.

If anyone told me that they could beat the SNES version of Battletoads and Double Dragon without cheating, I'd have to see proof.

Any Metal Slug is very beatable in AES mode. It just takes practice, timing, skill, and a little luck.

But, yes Battletoads is frickin' impossible.
