Can anyone fill me in on how one can play US SNES games on a JPN Super Famicom? I assume that there are pass-through converters for this problem, but I've only ever seen SFC-on-SNES converters. Anyone know?

look inside where the cartridge is. you'll notice 2 little knobs along the back-side.
carve those out with a knife or something and then you can play US games on your JPN SNES.
same also works with JPN games on a US SNES.

on top of that, you can do the same thing with the N64. :buttrock:

Tip appreciated - this definitely works with a US SNES to play SuFami games, but not the other way round - SNES carts are wider than the slot on a JPN SFC system, and square as opposed to rounded. You'd have to cut a rather large amount of plastic out around the slot - I'm looking for a pass-through converter for SNES carts on a SFC console.

yeah ur gonna need a converter cartridge that fits into the famicom and has an open slot on the top for u to set the US cartridge on. u can prolly make one yourself, seems pretty simple.

(wouldn't u just need to link aa male and female connector together? keep the male connector in the system permanently then just dangle the female connector wherever outside the system or if u want a cleaner mod u could make a case for it)

I guess one could make one, but since I have no electrical skills at all, I'd probably ruin my SFC console trying it. Question stands: anyone know of a commercially available converter to play US SNES carts on a JPN SFC system?

considering they are 100% compatible with one another, you probably just need something to serve as a cartridge extender. I'm sure something like a PAR would serve the purpose, but that might cost more than you'd prefer to pay.

Hell, a lot of those generic converters PAL SNES users need for import games would probably work too, because they are the right shape in the bottom, and to top slots were usually made with both JPN and US NTSC carts in mind. furthermore, they require two carts (one the import NTSC, and one PAL native) to get past the PAL protection, which means that using one NTSC cart in an NTSC machine should also work.

Someone at the game store I work at took in for trade a japanese Street Fighter 2 cart, apparently with a converter on it? Weird thing is we don't take import games...anyway, it was priced in the system as a normal 2.99 SF2 cart, so I got the thing for 2 bucks and it works. Fuck yeah. :buttrock:

My question:

What are some good Super Famicom games to get that don't involve reading japanese (unless it's simple menus)? Thanx! :p

Why not buy an SNES off of Ebay? They are pretty cheap, all things considered, and by the time you find a converter (and probably pay out the ass for it, since it appears they are "rare") you could have been playing all of your games already?

on top of that, you can do the same thing with the N64.

Just remember that the N64 plastic knobs are made of a lot tougher plastic than the SNES knobs. :D

This is what I'll probably end up doing - finding a cheap SNES. Was hoping to lessen that ridiculous tangle of wires behind the TV, but you're right, I could probably find a decent condition SNES system for less than the converter I'm looking for.
